I get that maybe they'd want to throw a curve at the audience. It really all comes down to personal taste though. For me, I'd prefer for her not to look like a Grey. But I think everyone can agree on what they wound up doing was the worst way to go.

Those films were conceived and executed with female characters built into them exclusively. Mass Effect was not. Yet again, those films are exceptions.

how do you know what the plan is for the Mass Effect film? they CHOSE to make those characters female and those movies were successful. they (RE in particular) are absolutely comparable.

What if instead of picking male or female Shep, they went with both and had two leads?

Mass Effect, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gylenhaal.

Get out! NOW!

but yeah, femshep would be great. Whoever plays femshep should be dubbed by Jennifer Hale.

If Seth Green isn't joker, it's a no go. Have John Goodman play wrex? ha.

It would be a crime against humanity not to make Seth Green Joker.

Thought they'd already confirmed Sheploo for the movie....

This will either be very good, or very bad. Wouldn't like to call it yet.

I fear that Mass Effect is just one of those un-adaptable projects. The games themselves were already so cinematic, I'm coming to the realization that I did in fact "play" a 90 hour Mass Effect film over the course of the 3 games. Making a film with the same scope as just Mass Effect 1 would require an insanely high budget.

I doubt it will happen, but IF they successfully adapt this, I pray that they'll not attempt to combine more than one game into one film. ME 1 is easily enough material for 1 or 2 films by itself. I hope that if they do choose to make the films Shepard-centric, they focus on the Shepard vs. Saren story alone for ME 1.

I would love Fem Shep, but I just know it will be a male lead.

The two aren't overly comparable minus the whole space setting.

Mass Effect's plots are pretty dense but for one film, shep chasing saren across the galaxy isn't too far fetched nor too complex to write a decent screen play out of though. A blade runner synth like score and practical effects/make up for the asari/krogan/turians would make my dreams come true. However I know neither would happen as it'd be a bland orchestral score (mass effect 3) with cgi races.

I played all 3 games in the series and loved every one of them, but I seriously doubt this can be pulled off. Game franchise movies don't have a good history and a very dialog/story driven game like Mass Effect and it's interaction on so many levels is going to be next to impossible to make work on the screen. For one, you're going from a well regarded, INTERACTIVE experience to a sit back and watch one and given the quality of the games......an absolutely horrendous idea.

I'm not sure I do. Yes, video game movies have a poor track record, but this game series is already very cinematic. Give me a 3-hour Sci-Fi opus, with the focus on recruiting the unique characters that eventually make up Shepard's team, and I'm cloud nining it all the way.

Here's the biggest issue of them all: Hollywood choosing to create a movie from a video game when they apparently don't have imagination nor writing skill to make something up on their own.

Then you'll have some director and a CGI team throw gobs of special effects at it. Like irresponsible teenage boys with their fathers sports car wrapping themselves around a pole, but we'll get a mess of a movie for their misguided efforts.

That's a fair assessment given Hollywood's past with the subgenre, but I'm still counting on Duncan Jones' World of Warcraft to be the first truly great video game movie.
