The one without the Pacific promo in it went out of print, replaced by the one with the Pacific promo in it. Presumably that's what OP is referring to, whether s/he knew it or not.

Several of their blu-ray titles are/were out of print. For example, try finding a cheap new copy of Indecent Proposal for the past few months. Apparently some other titles are hard to come by, e.g., Zodiac. Perhaps they are just changing the covers or making them cheaper. Perhaps not.

Odd, that Paramount is not renewing licenses for these other titles. I think these films are very popular, which is why they are now OOP, or sold out if you will. Somewhere along the re-licensing of these titles, they may have hit snags. Perhaps a marketing angle as well, hold on tight to titles, then re-release to lure consumers...again. There are so many films to release, they just may not have the budget right now or the time to produce the release. ![]() |

ya know it wouldn't surprise me coming from paramount...the studio that discontinued their blu ray releases, went exclusively to another format until it died, and came crawling back like nothing ever happened. sorry...i just went on a bad memory trip.

Paramount should learn that the reason why their catalog titles don't sell is because:
1. They are OVERPRICED. Zodiac has been out years now, but I've never seen the price below $25. 2. Their LACK of quality. I'd pay $30 dollars for an older film like American Beauty, but if the release has issues, I won't even buy it for $18. People buy new releases because they're on sale and have good quality. People don't buy their catalogs because they're the polar opposite. |

I know it's supposed to be pretty accurate, but every once in a while I think that Michael's Movie Mayhem website isn't quite up to date, this title being one of those occasions. Here it lists another version as not being discountinued, but it's been unavailable directly from amazon since at least February, and, as you noted, rather difficult to come by. Maybe it becomes discontinued there once walmart sells out. ![]() |

Paramount has been discontinuing its dvds for months now.
whether they license all of them out to Lionsgate or other entities remains to be seen. thanksfully I have gone through every single Paramount dvd release on amazon, and now have pretty much every title I want from them. so that solves my dvd problem, but as for bds, it is looking very grim. pro-b seems to think that licensing opportunities for such classics as "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Sabrina" (which is probably my favorite Paramount film), and all the John Wayne movies will eventually develop. also: I'm not convinced there is any Paramount bd that has truly gone OOP because take the case of "Reds" Everyone and his brother said that that blu-ray was OOP, and it was hard to find for a few months. but guess what--it is back in stock at amazon. and I bet "Indecent Proposal" will come back also. most likely Paramount gets word when a title is gone and they put in an order for a new pressing; so don't be so sure "Indecent Proposal" is really gone. I passed on buying that bd because I just don't think it's a very good movie to start with. I wouldn't care if it really was OOP even though it's probably not. btw: Paramount just announced "True Grit" for December so they are still in the catalog game. barely. ![]() Last edited by Arkadin; 10-11-2010 at 05:21 PM. |
