that's where i'm at. I just watched it about a month ago once i got my new tv. I need to have patience as well. Right now i'm painting the entire inside of my house (walls, trim, doors), basically so my HT will look better. Is that pathetic or what? It's quite an undertaking doing all that with people, furniture, and two cats running around. But it'll keep me from buying blurays and beer. Oh, i can't wait to sit down and crank it up.

I, for one, would never buy Deadwood on Blu-Ray. I absolutely LOVED this series and HBO KILLED it before it could have its forth and final season. For this reason, I will not support HBO.
Nor would I ever buy Carnivale S1 or S2 on Blu-Ray. This was supposed to be a 6 season series. When The Sopranos finished airing, I cancelled HBO and I'll only buy completed series on Blu-Ray when they become available. HBO was great when there wasn't much other HD content airing. They had The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome, etc. Then, they decided to be cheap and cancel three of those five shows. To be replaced by what?: John From Cincinatti? ![]() |

All that doesn't change the fact that you love Deadwood Seasons 1-3 and you know it would be fantastic on bluray. Maybe if the sales of the blus are through the roof, HBO would see fit to finish it? Probably not, because i don't think the blame is entirely on HBO. Honestly, i think it had more to do with keeping the cast together than anything else. They were all going in different directions (movie roles, other tv shows, etc) and all the while HBO is paying an ungodly amount of money on that set. It was inevitable.
I know there are a couple of storyline threads that i would love to see resolution on, but i'd like to hear your take on where the show would have headed in a 4th season. I'm not sure there's enough there to keep it from going stale. I mean, i know my wife wants to see Bullock and Alma hook back up, but i could really care less. Of course, i could listen to AL or E.B. recite the phonebook till they're blue in the face, so maybe i'm more on your side than i think. |

With any time pieces, the cost is high (Deadwood, Rome & Carnivale). With Carnivale, the set was always being moved to different locations (the carnival literally had to be mobile.) Those costs drove that show into the ground. |

Sounds like there are a number of hard-core Deadwood enthusiasts on here, to whom I recommend YouTubing "David Milch" and watch/listen to anything and everything the guy has to say on ANY topic. (He created Deadwood and was the head writer - though not always credited that way - for all the episodes.) He is a real-deal Genius. And factor in recovering heroin addict, Yale graduate (frat-bro w/ Dubya), compulsive gambler, etc.
The Craig Ferguson appearance videos, and the Tavis Smiley audios are great intros to who he is. Best TV Show Ever, so far. Recommendations: The Wire, The Shield, Firefly, Rome, The Tudors, Friday Night Lights, Damages, (and John From Cincinnati - since Milch's genius IS in it, despite 'dumb'/farcical characters/themes/settings) Last edited by cmchotmail; 05-14-2010 at 03:54 AM. |

It's a godawful disappointment - totally lame insult to injury after losing something as soul-bogglingly cool as Deadwood, prematurely - but Milch's intelligence and 'message' is very 'experience-able' in the scripts, if you're willing to put up with the rest of it (which IS tough).
The ex-cop has some fantastic Milch-ian lines/scenes, like a cosmic-soul-brother to Al Swearengen...and Ed O'N. plays him almost as well as McShane 'channeled' Al. But in an essentially FARCICAL world, unlike the grit of Deadwood. Worth Netflixing, for Milch enthusiasts. Otherwise yeah, off with its head! |

And TREME is awesome, so far. Brilliant, but way more of The Wire's vibe, vs. the Deadwood's. Smart, deep, soulful, and set in the archetypical old-school Ghetto (similar to Deadwood's pioneer-'ghetto', on that 'shakespearean' level)...

I am dying for deadwoods blu ray release. I will never forgive hbo for how they screwed deadwood for John from cincinnati. I do find it funny that milch was finally able to cast Ed o-Neil (a funny fact is that he wanted Ed for the role of al swearengen in deadwood but hbo would not allow it). It was sad to see milch, years later, rip on mcshane's portrayal of al saying Ed would've done better. I always appreciated the deadwood cast for being very fan friendly. Many of them used to frequent the hbo deadwood forums and give behind the scenes info...especially during the weeks when it was effectively cancelled.

How could Milch be anything but ecstatic at the way Ian played Al? That's insanity talking. Sorry, but Al Bundy can't do Al Swearingen. I've been curious about this show for a while. Gonna have to Tivo it now. |
