[Show spoiler] I just figured since he came back in the last season of Angel they would put him in season 8.
[Show spoiler]That's probably because he does turn up in Angel: After the Fall (basically Angel: Season 6)

I'm not sure widescreen releases will ever happen in the States, since Joss states that Buffy is a '4:3 show' and that the only reason other places got widescreen versions on DVD is because they came out early and he had less control over them, whereas in the US he made sure the releases stayed 4:3. I can sort of see his point since the frames were not properly composed for 16:9, but I've personally never noticed any boom mics or whatever on my DVDs (not that I've ever bothered looking properly)

If you do get it, wait till around Christmas... I wouldn't be surprised if you could get the whole series for about $120 delivered from the UK to the US.

And I agree I don't think this is testing the waters... they can't expect this to sell like the rest of the show would, plenty of fans of the show would have no interest in this. But maybe if it sells EXTRAORDINARILY well they might consider it a bit more. I'd absolutely adore Buffy to be released on BD, but I'd want it to be done properly with re-done effects like Star Trek TOS (with the option to play with original upscaled, and new HD effects), and that just seems to good (and expensive) to ever hope for! If they did get released on BD, I'd be curious how they'd handle the framing issues as well... If the world got the same release and it was 4:3 as Joss may want, I think lots of Europeans and Australians would be bemoaning the loss of the widescreen they're so used to!
Oath, they'd have to pry my widescreen Buffy sets out of my cold dead hands...

From what I read the CG was done in NTSC, at least in the early series. So for a proper HD release they would need to be redone like ST TOS. If they did it, it would sell, and I'd hazard to say probably as well as ST TOS. You have to remember, Buffy was one of the few series that actually was able to sell in the old days on VHS. With DVD, TV series home sales took off, but prior it was only some series that were able to do OK.

So from that I take it the s8 comic is still being issued - so the blu ray is going to be incomplete?

I think there is still something like 5 issues left. And the final 5 don't start coming out until like September.

Just checked out the preview on amazon, this is gonna be really cool for fans. I'm now really looking forward to this. This may sound crazy (but maybe not to you giuys), but I really hope it has lossless audio. I just want to hear the opening in HD. I didn't mind the buffy voice actress form what I heard.

+1, it makes no sense releasing it now when it's incomplete.

Just watched the preview. Disappointed.

I like that they put the theme in, but I don't like that it was playing into the actual story.

And I really don't like the voice actors, that's not the way I hear the characters at all. Too bad they didn't get the original cast

I don't like that the theme plays into the story either, hope I will still be able to hear the characters.

Intresting I collected the comics up to issue 20 something and just fell behind and never caught back up, I enjoyed it. I would buy this but only if it was the full season 8. It is a shame they did not get the orginal actors Alyson and Sarah are long shots but they could have at least got good sound a likes like they used in Chaos Bleeds. The voice over on the trailer sounds nothing like SMG.

The release date for the DVD is January 4, 2011 according to this:

http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=15988

It says it'll contain 19 episodes so it'll end with the "Time of Your Life" arc.

Just saw the first episode based on the first issue, and it's not that bad if you can get over the different voices.

I have most of the s8 comics but I'm not buying this. According to Bleeding Cool FOX refused to pay royalties to either writers or artists for the motion comic and hired non-union people to do the voice work.

FOX just loves those Buffy fans. Yeah, right. Other than whatever cut Whedon gets, if any, it seems like FOX pockets the rest. Sorry. Not getting mine.

I just downloaded the first ep too, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to this disc. I'm sure they will get the artist thing worked out, I can't see boycotting this release because it will just shoot us in the foot for anything Buffy related future on Blu.

Agreed. For those interested, the first 2 episodes are available on Amazon Video on Demand (or iTunes). $1 for standard def, $2 for high def.

I imagine that a lot of folks might still have $4 in credit at Amazon (from that buy a BD get $4 VOD credit promo they've been running forever), so this is a good way to burn it...
