Yea it was cool. I wished I would have seen it back when it came out though. But I wasnt disappointed. The effects were nice especially for that time frame. I caught it on directv in HD about a month ago. I would get it on blu if it gets cheap enough and watch again. Got Em!!

I'm glad you liked it. Maybe you need to make a "I saw The Thing Thread" so the harassment will stop.

There are few "perfect" horror movies...where you are completely sucked in from beginning to end. The Thing is one of those movies.

I haven't seen many of the new remakes, but I have to say I really enjoyed the 2009 Friday the 13th.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978). One of the times when a great film is made better IMO. The Thing looks like the runaway winner on this one which is no surprise because it is a super film but as I have not seen the original, could not vote for it.

I don't see how anything but The Thing is beating it out.

I really enjoyed Zombies Halloween and will be watching again soon right before the new one is released so that got my vote... The Thing is also great but I am yet to see the first... I dont like Romeros Zombie films but did enjoy the 08 remake of Day of the dead

Dawn remake was ok but
[Show spoiler] without showing the zombies IN THE MALL, it was not a true remake. why? because Dawn focused on greed/materialism, with the zombies representing us greedy consumers (big eyes, scratching on the store window). Dawn was a parody of consumerism and greed, so the Dawn remake just left all of that out, and hence wasn't even a true remake
. also IMO the "true" zombie doesn't run, they walk. its scarier that way. why? as romero said: "its like space invaders"..i dont know about you guys, but romero is right: that video game freaked me out, more than games where you're getting chased down

Not surprisingly, I agree with you again: The Ring. I know it is popular to hate this movie, especially because of the ending and because of the hype surrounding it. However, I thought the directing by Verbinski and the mood he set forth were incredible. I also thought the music was very effective, as was the cinematography. Can't wait for it on blu.

Like many, I generally think remakes are unnecessary and inferior to their predecessors. No more is this apparent, imo, than in the horror genre. While I do not rank The Ring among my top 7 horror films of all time (Alien, The Shining, Psycho, Halloween, The Orphanage, The Exorcist, The Blair Witch Project), I would probably rank it number 8, with The Exorcism of Emily Rose number 9 and Nosferatu number 10.

Nice insight as always.

I have respect for The Thing, but I honestly don't like it that much and think the top 7 I listed above are much better, while the other three are debatable. I know a lot of ppl on this site like it, but it just doesn't do it for me. Great mood though.
