wow is it just me or was there no good news for HD DVD in that whole thing at all? In fact possibly even bad news with the hints that the Venturer could be $300?

Apparently. DVD Times should have a liveblog with pics up soon. For now, at least, it looks like the HD DVD frothing may die down a bit.

the best bit was

Quote:
Right, Microsoft has taken the stage. Poor guy. Everyone's leaving.
but was that it......?? Now i know why thay had to shell out 150milion, without it they were down and out.

So 1 new PC recorder. and a couple more tosh players. an expensive Onkyo player (that wont sit well with the HD-DVD price sensitive crew) and a slightly cheaper chinese player (that will be the holy grail of the HD-DVD price sensitive crew).

Sounds like whoopie cushon to me. But but, Warner were going to annouce being exclusive??

I hope for them they have more for CEDIA, because Blu Ray just owned them at IFA so far.

I'm like Gary on the bottom of the last page: "That's it?!"

Where's the rest of it? Where's the shock and awe that was supposed to put fear in our hearts following the Paramount news and the Venturer news that may not even be the super cheap option they were hoping it would be anyways?

This is downright embarassing for them. They'd be pray they have something more going for them at CEDIA then what this non-show was!

I can't believe they didn't have anything to counter all the Blu-ray announcements yesterday. Add to that their "cheap" Chinese player looks like it will cost $300 and you have a total loss.

Now, let's see all the software announcements at CEDIA.

It looks like they did indeed blow all their big news these last couple of weeks to try and FUD and front run another round of electronics' shows where they have and do absolutely nothing.

They're getting blown out (again) at this IFA show.

MY FAV. was this QUOTE:
The HD-DVD player for Xbox sees a price decrease to 179 euros. You'll also get 5 free titles with this one as well. This is seen by him to be the easiest way to get into HD. (Clearly not if you're not a gamer. And, this directly contradicts what the previous guy said about gamers not actually being a massive market for HD-DVD).

Acer, HP, Samsung, Asus, Rock, LG, Gateway, Alpine, Onkyo. All companies who are working with HD-DVD.

notice all the companies were listed on the BDA...what he is saying
IE: Were getting absorbed....into the blu-ray format...

Let's see how CEDIA is handled - their thrust is obviously America first then the world.

I didn't.

After they bribed Paramount and had that Venturer news come out, the FUD and lies and frenzy have been at all time high.

^^ Classic coverup tactics. Same old straw man tactics they've been using for the last two years now, at least.

There is no more signifigant news for them.

I'll bet you here and now CEDIA will be more or less the same non event for HD-DVD as well.

I didn't think Venturer was in Europe. So, the competition is so little that a fab-less CE in Markham Ontario can corner the word market on Chinese made HD DVD players?

300 Euros = US$408

Ignoring the world is a rather moronic strategy nowdays. The world outside North America accounts for 60% of the Hollywood box office. Then there is their own domestic movie industries.

Like HD DVD-R/RW burners for March 2006?
Like those 600 HD DVD for the end of 2007 (notice, it is now 400)?
Like the Broadcom/Microsoft Chinese players for June?
Like 2.5 million, no 1.8 million, no 1.2 million, no 600K players for 2007?

Exactly.

People need to remember the worldwide perspective a lot more on all of this.

There are countries in Europe and around the world where HD-DVD is literally DOA for all intents and purposes.

It can't. How can a $299 no-name compete with a $299 Toshiba? It HAS to be $199, or they might as well not bother.
