^Ah, I did notice in another review that orange-tint to the skintones that this reviewer is griping about.
Wow, looking at those screenshots, I think that if I were to buy this it would be the worst-looking BR in my collection. Last edited by wilky61; 02-16-2011 at 01:52 AM. |

Zip.ca has mailed me my rental copy; I expect to watch it this weekend. Along with Last Tango in Paris. It's a '70s weekend for me!

The film was shot by the great Gordon Willis, and while this film isn't pristine. It was never meant to be. Willis loved to shoot scenes in the lowest light he could try to get away with in many films he worked on.
Most would say the transfer looks bad, but I see see a transfer like this on my plasma and I'm drooling. This Network, and Last Tango in Paris to me is eye candy for the week. Film is an art form when we start trying to make all films be pristine and clean and smoothed over then how interesting is that? To me each film represents a completely different texture for the viewer. I hope more people can look at a grainy transfer as well as a pristine crystal clear image and realize that both are wonderful looking and represent what was captured on film, or other source used. I would love to see Klute released as well as Don't Look Now - neither film will look like it was made last year, but it would be nice to see the films in HD. Taxi Driver will be out soon, and during the duration of that film there are soft looking shots, grainier than other shots, desaturated- muted shots and it isn't going to be Inception, but coming from Sony I have no doubt it will look film like. |

I have to politely disagree with the BluRay.com review of this disc. I feel a 3 star rating in picture quality was pretty low compared to some other films and reviews I've seen.
Keeping in mind this film is now 35 years old, I was very impressed at the quality. The movie looks gritty, with authentic film grain.. but I would not consider it lacking contrast, too dark or skin tones being as orange as they described. I thought the film had a lot of detail and great color for it's age. I have many older films on Blu Ray that look far worse than this, (shawshank, groundhog day, willy wonka) but that bluray.com gave a higher rating. Rain Man has 10 years on this film, got a higher score and I still want to say this is just as sharp, if not better at times. Especially with the color. Not to say this doesn't have it's flaws as well.. but take it for what it is and consider it's age, damn good copy of this movie. Best it will probably ever look and a very nice digibook included! IMO, a more accurate review and rating would be the one at High Def Digest: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/4254...residents.html |

Klute is a Warner title. Given their excellent commitment to their back-catalog, I would be hopeful of an announcement within the next few months, especially as this year is the film's 40th anniversary. Edit on 22 February: It now appears that Don't Look Now will be released in the UK by Optimum on 4th April - both Amazon.co.uk and Play.com have been updated today to show that date. Has anyone had problems in playing the "Making Of" feature? On my copy, the picture starts pixelating about four minutes from the start. It happens on both my Panasonic players and it's the first Blu-ray I've had with such a problem.
At the moment, I'm assuming it's just a rogue pressing so I'll get it exchanged, but it would be interesting to know if anyone else has had similar problems with this feature. |

I disagree with the Blu-ray.com review regarding the dark scenes. I didn't think they were problematic at all, they were just what I expected. I did notice the orangish skin tones, primarily in the newsroom scenes. The flesh tones started looking more natural with about 20-30 minutes left in the movie. I've only watched the first featurette so far, but it was very good. Looking forward to the rest.

I notice that the Digi-book ATPM came out last Feb 2011 and now this month there is another ATPM release without the digibook. Does anybody know the differences, if any, between the two releases apart from the "digi-book"? Are there any other differences between the releases? Is the digi-book worth having?
thanks in advance for any info, ![]() |

I think this Digibook is very elegant, though. Many of the photographs inside the book (e.g., of the actors) are in black-and-white, though not all of them. There are brief summaries of the careers of Hoffman, Redford, Robards, Holbrook, and the director Pakula. There's a timeline of the events of the Watergate/Washington Post saga, an essay of the film's merits/importance, and a brief word about the identity of Deep Throat at the end. |
