I suppose it's all a matter of personal perspective. Not really any right or wrong here.

I think you mentioned you have a different amp, so it may not be the best comparision.

Joe
I would not say it's better. That's subjective. However, for me personally, it's not a loss at all. When it comes to speakers, imo more does not mean better, it just means more. Many people can't wrap their minds around this because we live in a multi-channel entertainment world. If that floats your boat, then fine. That's not my ship anymore, I got off the course. I understand that it is not a popular opinion, but you're the one who will live with it, so do what pleases you!

In a 2.1 system, LFE from the sub is what integrates everything and makes it gel. Rear channels were always an afterthought for me, including when I had them. Also, most quality blu-ray players have stereo options in the setup. It sounds superb.

You will get no argument from me that 2 channel is audio bliss. Like you I do not have room for two separate systems, and in a perfect world I would have a home theater system and a 2 channel system.

I love pure 2 channel that is why I purchased a integrated tube amp and I swap out the speaker cables every time I go from 2 channel to multi-channel.

Dude........

I was just reading through some of your past pages .... It seems some people just don't get it and probably never will. I think age plays a factor in whether or not a person is comfortable with stereo (2 channel for the young folk )reproduction over/or along with surround sound. Prior to the last 20 years everything was in stereo (well sorta). It reminds me of the people who now can't live without their cell phones or can't get from point A to point B without their GPS.

It's a sad state of affairs

Enjoy your system the way you wish

Long live analog

I just remodeled my family room/theater room. Once I got everything done, I set up my 2 tower speakers (with built in sub woofers) and a brand new POLK center channel.

I never got around to setting up the surrounds mainly cause I didn't want to deal with speaker wire going all around the room ....

So now I guess I have a 3 channel system...

I must admit I don't really miss the rear surrounds that much.... there are and always were a few great examples of surround sound but there are not a ton of great examples (the scene in DRAGON HEART where the dragon is flying around talking to Dennis Quaid comes to mind)..

I'm perfectly okay without the rears....

Thanks Wabo. Long time, rarely get to post here or on AVS these days.

I'm going to change my turntable. Top choices are the Avid Diva or the Pro-Ject RPM 9.2. Will also change the speakers and power amp. Still mulling it around, and deciding what they will be. Isn't this hobby fun?

The last time I watched a blu-ray movie was on my laptop on a flight. I can't even tell you the last time I watched a blu-ray disc at home. It's mostly music these days. Suffice to say, surround sound isn't missed here.

How's it going today ?

In my renewed love of vinyl I have been playing alot of Jazz/Rock fusion but today I changed my mind whilst going through my crates and decided to play this GEM (I'm sure most members never heard of).......

and then I played....

Yes, the sub is great for LFE. The B&W CM9 leaves a lot to be desired if you like your bass deep. The JL Audio Fathom takes care of that with ease.

With your equipment 2.1 is definitely enough.

btf1980,

Good to see you around again.

I like the look of the credenza, very nice. Looking forward to the pics of the new turntable, speakers, and amp once you get them.

And your setup looks just as awesome as ever!

Seth

Ummmmm... what kind of insanity is this thread all about?!?!?!?

There is no F-ing way I'd subject myself to an environment of less than fully surrounding audio unless there was no other possible option.

I will admit however that I avoid matrixing stereo to surround.

EDIT: I guess this discussion makes sense for music, but certainly is if discussing films/games.
