Ohh, I'm completely different there. I'm a language nut. A case (or Steelbook) can't have enough different cultural stuff on it for me, when I import it The more various languages, the merrier. That's more or less the main reason I buy imports to begin with. ^^

Ya, you're right that the RE: Afterlife Steels are all over the place, but the Salt SB was a tough find. And they are pretty much non existent in stores now (at least in SoCal). So I'm glad I found mine when I did.

Inception at this point is non-existent in any FYE store within any sort of reasonable driving distance of me so I ordered one off eBay the other day.

Part of the fun, though, is researching online and finding out which Steels are coming out where and when, and then scooping them up in person at the right time.

I'm looking forward to 2011 and hoping we get more releases here in the US.

I started with US steels like Pirated of the Caribbean and then got hooked. I only order from amazon.ca/uk/com. All my German and Korean steels come from forum members. ^_^

There's great people who do group buys and some people sell steel at reasonable price, so i stick to a few sellers only. Hate people who want 70 or 80 bucks for a single steelbook that's not even a trilogy.

As for ebay, I hardly use it unless the seller lists the item as mint and says they ship with bubble wrap around the steel. Only got 3 Steelbooks from ebay and I was lucky to get them in Perfect shape.

I'm in Canada and only get the Steelbooks I want for the movies I like.
I've gotten a couple of UK Steelbooks.
I only buy Steelbooks with just English on them. I skipped the Kill Bill ones since they had bilingual, that is just wrong.

Me too , I love the front and backs of Kill Bill 1 & 2 , but those spines are butt F'n ugly with the English upside down. I also have some region B imports that are nice except for those also butt ugly ratings symbols

I've already purchased a bunch of Canada/ Future Shop imports (Dark Knight, 300, I Am Legend, etc.) and don't have a problem with them at all.

However, I do agree that the spines are a little odd in two languages, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I did order my first non-North American Steel recently and should take delivery of it today; Event Horizon (GER).

With a Steel that's only released outside of the US, like Event Horizon, then I'm all for picking up a foreign version. But for worldwide releases like Salt I'd prefer to have my native version.

Having said that, some foreign Steels have an extra cool factor to me, like Inglorious Basterds. As much as I like the artwork and appreciate the value in the Canadian version, the fact that the movie took place in Europe makes the German and French versions that much cooler to me.

But that's just my personal take on it, and of course, to each his or her own.

Not sure what you mean with your question? Can you ask it maybe in a different way?
Are you asking, because you think the price structure for Steelbooks does vary from country to country?

I guess my question is as far as currency difference go. How do I know what my actual cost would be from amazon.de or amazon.uk?? For example is 11.99 in pounds the same as in dollars or francs?

Kind of funny your question, however I am serious
You pay always what the shop does offer you, of course you have to use the current exchange rate to $USD. So amazon.de does offer a flatrate shipping for example to the States...as far as I know

You can also look at the exchange rates at http://www.xe.com
For me, it's a very easy site to use.
Use the "Universal Currency Converter" on the website.

The question is will the item will be caught at customs. And how is it shipped by courier or regular mail, because then brokerage fees become an issue as well. Those things add to your cost and you won't know until it gets here.

If your in the USA and you import its a great deal really. You don't pay taxes at all if using Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.de

The UK would probably sell a steelbook for less than what the US equivalent (if one existed) would cost. Most cost £18 or less and even with shipping thats about what Bestbuy charged for the Disney steels ($30+). Besides people like JW import a ton of them and sell them on in the USA so your covered either way.

The only thing you have to worry about is dents. Unfortunately a lot of vendors do not ship them in tough containers, just flimsy cardboard. On the plus side most will send replacements if you complain.
