Default Just how close do you think we are to PS4??

Just pure speculation of course. But how far away do you think we are from PS4 being at least announced? We are in year 4 of PS3 and I know in generations past, companies would announce new hardware around year 4 or 5 in the current console's life. Of course this generation is a little different with the PS3 already having been designed to be more "future proof" than previous consoles. Plus I'm sure Sony wants to try and reoup as much of loss from PS3 as possible before announcing anything new.

My prediction, I believe new hardware is announced at E3, 2012. New hardware is launched worldwide in November 2013.

I'm thinking late 2013 is the earliest launch point, more likely to be 2014, maybe October 2014.

The PS3 is an excellent system because it does so much. I think the PS4 would have to be a huge improvement over the PS3 before I would consider an upgrade.

Also depends on when MS and Nintendo will announce theirs.

I'm thinking an announce in 2012 for a 2013 release in Japan or world, because I'm fully expecting a new BoBox announce either at this year's E3 (the 360 is already close to 6 years old) or next.

I think the question is is do we really need a PS4? I mean the PS3 pretty much is an awsome machine. What more can they do with it except make it cook our food for us! lol

not sure but I'll definitely be holding off of new hardware, especially this generation. The first year or so is very mediocre in terms of game selection, and I'm really happy with the quality of the PS3's library.

Now that I look back at some of my first few games, Fight Night 3, Virtua Fighter 5, Resistance 1, etc, I made a lot of purchases to games I normally wouldn't just because of a lack of selection. I guess I'll have to see, if a product totally blew me away, I'd consider it, otherwise i'll wait.

Killzone 4 or Crysis 3 would probably make me purchase.

Industry analyst Billy Pidgeon also chipped in on the subject, noting that "we'll see a game of chicken between Sony and Microsoft," and believes "Sony definitely isn't launching a successor before 2014 and could stand to benefit by having Microsoft launch first as PS3 builds in to North America and builds a strong position in Europe."

IGN said the Wii 2 might lauch this year. I see no chance of that happening. Nintendo would release a system four months after announcing it? It took Sony more than a year to release Move, and that was just a controller. I think Wii 2 - June-Sep 2012, XB3 or PS4 -Sep 2013-June 2014.

I will shit my pants if Nintendo puts out a new console this year. For two reasons:

A. wow right under our noses, good job Nintendo

B. have fun with two games at launch just like Nintendo 64. They'd better be ****ing good games (to be fair, Mario 64 is probably the best platformer ever and Pilotwings is a little darling).

but I seriously don't see it happening. Nintendo is trying to refocus their efforts and regain 3rd party support. They can't afford to launch with only a couple of first party games. They need to launch in full swing, they need a real game that isn't their own. Launching this year does not give anyone enough time to make a game, as the Dev kits have only been out since this year and they may not even be final hardware. but launching mid-late 2012 does give enough time to make a game. Particularly, a game that has already been in development for a bit and is basically completely planned with some assets already made and would therefore just need to be moved to a Wii2 platform and rework the engine.

the big commotion right now is that they have dev kits at Rockstar. So the hot rumor is that Rockstar has something serious cooking on Nintendo hardware and that the system could launch with a Rockstar game. Something fun that was thrown on top of that is what if its GTA5? and what does that mean? exclusive? or just that Nintendo will have the best console version? Who knows. But, GTA is a high selling series, so it would certainly be nice for Nintendo.

Problem is, with the way the timing is working out, we might have the new Dreamcast on the horizon : \

If Nintendo's next console were released at the end of this year or beginning of next, it would be the same timetable as the 3DS insofar as reveal to release. And I can't remember the last console launch that wasn't pretty barren and terrible with respect to game choice.

There is a big, big difference between consoles and handhelds, both in terms of hardware and in terms of money. And actually, we knew about the 3ds long before it was called the 3ds. And just one more point, other launch titles were poor, yes, but they could afford to be. Wii, Ps3 and 360 were all relatively new when those launches occurred. Wii 2 will be launching against not only two staunchly supported hd systems, but against it's own predecessor as well. Plus, developing console games currently takes years. Call of Duty comes out every year, but they each have separate developers that begin work months in advance. Aside from Madden and NBA, maybe Call of Duty, no developer could get out a decent game that f
