I emailed Panasonic again concerning the fact I got conflicting stories from them regarding the HDMI 1.3. Just thought I'd share the email info I got back....
The HDMI version on the BD10A is 1.2A, this is a hardware specification and can't be changed by firmware. Any HDMI device should be compatable with any other HDMI Device. 1.3 adds certain features that are mostly targeted at recieving devices not output devices. The DMPBD10A is a output device. The 2.3 Firmware update addresses certain incompatabilities with certain discs that don't specifically meet the Blu-ray specifications and as such were causing errors. This firmware update will override certain features on the player when certain discs are inserted so that they will play properly. The 2.2 update did add the capability to play back DTS-HD audio from the unit itself. DTS-Master is being looked at for a future update. Thank You, Panasonic Consumer Support I'm new at this, but I thought DTS-MA is only supported through HDMI 1.3? |

Basically, HDMI 1.3 means that the player can do a certain number of specified tasks via HDMI. So, this means that it may be possible for a player to output DTS-HD MA as a bitstream and not be 1.3 compliant. If Panasonic says it's possible for their player to output DTS-HD MA as a bitstream via a firmware update, then I think you should take them at their word. |

And according to DTS site you must have a 1.3 player and reciever to go MA You can enjoy DTS-HD Master audio by upgrading to a Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD player with DTS-HD Advanced Digital Out and new AV Receiver with DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. Simply connect the player and receiver with an HDMI cable. The DTS-HD bit stream will pass through the player and HDMI cable to be decoded by the AV receiver. Both player and AV receiver will need to be equipped with new HDMI Version 1.3* outputs and inputs. This way you can enjoy DTS-HD Master Audio at up to 7.1 channels at 96 k/24 bit sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master Donot want to link since the last time I linked my post did not show up for 3 days. Panasonic might be looking it to it but I would suspect that it is a no go just because it is 1.2 HDMI. |

Thanks to quetzalcoatl and BadAss for the clarification. I had read the same thing on the DTS site that quetzalcoatl posted, so all this had me confused as to what was right. Not doubting Panasonic in anyway. Lord knows the people there are ALOT smarter than I am. Just trying to get the right info. |

Hey Bad you mind sharing where you are getting the chipset info for the players from? Just wondering since I cannot find any info on the 1400 out there and I thought the 7411 could not do the newer aduio codes. But since we know this player has been updated via FW to do them I was hoping that it had the 7440 on it. Or is the limitation on the 7411 only decoding not sending via bitstream?

I've scanned Broardcoms website for clues but theres nothing announced for the 1400. News jumps from the 1200's 7411 to the 5000, which is the first time they mention the new 7440 SoC.
So until some one proves me wrong... ![]() What we need is for more people to pop the lids on their players. ![]() The BD-P1000 is 60p while the 1200 is 24p yet they both use the 7411 chip. Strange. Last edited by BadAss; 10-01-2007 at 10:41 PM. |

It is the only player to get right now that can do MA. Just remember it is bitstream only not decoded. Now the rumor is the new elite 95 is due out within the week and it will do the same just at twice the price. I am considering it to replace my 1200 since Samsungs support is sooooo bad.

You can update your list to indicate that the Samsung 1400 player uses Sigma's SMP8634...
