Arrow should have let Criterion just release the U.K. edition Kind of a let down.

Was hoping for a better transfer... perhaps the Arrow will have better compression?

The new Arrow will be pretty much the same as the Criterion, but with better encoding. Even has all the extras as well, and it’s likely to be cheaper.

The Criterion transfer is from 2012. Thought maybe Universal/ Arrow did a whole new scan.

Oh, right. My bad. I think someone over in the Arrow thread mentioned that all the Criterion extras would be ported over, so I was going off that.

It will use the transfer that Criterion used for their release in 2012.

Yeah I don't get this reasoning. Does that mean the numbering will be messed up on the Criterion UK sets as films are getting released by Arrow?

We're never going to get a full set of Criterion releases here in the UK as many (probably most) of their titles are already licensed to other distributors or for example A Matter of Life and Death are owned by companies who would never license a title they could restore and make good money on themselves.

As such Criterion should have started the UK spine numbers at 001 and not worried them corresponding with their USA equivalents.

Considering the schedule for Criterion UK being slow as it is (3 a month) and different labels owning films internationally; it would of most likely taken years for the remastered "Being John Malkovich" to make it from Criterion UK.

When the time comes, be interesting to compare the older criterion to the new arrow. I have the UK graduate on Studiocanal, the common belief is the criterion is exactly the same, so we shall see...

Eh, the other, non-UK, Fox Euro Blus are practically the same as the Criterion PQ-wise.

All of the Fox European releases have DTS-HD Master Audio, but for some bizarre reason the UK release only offers lossy Dolby Digital Audio. If that bothers you, then it's best to avoid the UK edition.

Oh cheers, now you mention it I remember that being an issue, didn't really bother me that much so happy with my Fox UK Blu- have the criterion DVD (& laserdisc too) for the extras.
