Man I don't get the True Lies hate. Perfect spy satire with some of the most thrilling action Cameron has done.

day one for both. Absolutely love both films. Don't know how you guys can hate on True Lies. Such a fun flick. Tom Arnold killed it.

and while he's at it, I hope ol Jimmy boy gives us a remastered Terminator this year sometime, as well.

both of these are day one purchases fro me. The Abyss is my favourite cameron movie. recently bought both these films on DVD's from China (R6) from excel Media. both anamorphic, uncut and DTS-ES 6.1 audio. a much needed improvment from the current dvd's out there but hopefully the BD's will give me a reason to retire both of these

I have the extended Abyss on DVD but the PQ is not stellar. The True Lies DVD I have is awful. Both of these will be purchases for me.

I actually hope it will be, since all Blu-rays are non-anamorphic .

I will be getting these 2 on Blu-ray. True Lies is an awesome highly entertaining action film and The Abyss is quite a visually stunning trip. I agree the DVD's for these are non-anamorphic and need to be upgraded badly.

Will definitely pick both up if thery're released this year. Fox did The Abyss a disservice by never releasing it in an anamorphic release. Who wants to watch a window-boxed DVD on a widescreen television.

I can't wait for "True Lies"! I'm not a huge action buff, but I just love the combination of comedy, drama, and action. I love every one in this movie - especially J.L.C. and Eliza Dushku - I'll never forget seeing True Lies for the first time after watching Buffy and realizing that Faith was the little girl LOL.

Abyss, I'd pick up sub-$10 sometime...I only saw it once, would probably only watch it once or twice on Blu. But it's one I'd like to have in my library.

Please explain. Because I am under the impression that non-anamorphic actually means that the movie is seen with black bars above, below, and both sides of the screen. I have TRUE LIES on DVD and it is NOT anamorphic widescreen, which means that on my widescreen TV, there are black bars on all sides of the screen so it is like watching the movie through a tunnel. Of course, this only happens on a widescreen TV, not on a standard 4:3 TV.
When a DVD is labled as "anamorphic widescreen", there are no bars on the sides. There might be on top and bottom depending on the movie, but not on the sides.

Non-anamorphic is a term that's only correct for DVDs. Blu-rays have a native resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which is already widescreen. BDs therefore don't need to be anamorphic, that's what I meant.

How can you miss it? It's too obvious, even on VHS with a crappy 19" screen.
Or maybe a few of us just knows what Arnold looks like.

Universal have screwed up a number of transfers which didn't get supervised and/or approved by the directors (The Game is a notable example).
Another issue for the UK release of True Lies is that, if the DVD is anything to go by, it will have alot of cuts made to the fight scenes in order to get a 15 certificate. This being Fox, it's likely the US release will be region locked so anyone in the UK wanting this uncut an BD might have to import the Australian release.

Past UK DVD releases of The Abyss have also had a small cut made to the scene where the rat is put in the breathing fluid although this is not really noticeable unless you know about it.

I would definitely be in for both. Actually just recently bought The Abyss on dvd (upgraded from vhs) because I wasn't expecting a blu-ray release right away.

Ah, then thank you. There's always one poor guy who buys the old version, which immediately leads to the new one being announced. We are in your debt for your noble sacrifice.

I wouldn't mind if they take advantage of the occasion to re-release TERMINATOR 2 in a new edition that actually looks better than its DVD counterpart, not worse.

Definitely picking up both of these. I've never seen The Abyss, but if it looks as good as Aliens, I'm there the day it comes out.

In for both. Abyss I might wait for around $10 but True Lies would likely be a day 1 purchase.

Worth the purchase for this scene alone (NSFW):

Any recent news on The Abyss? I search this topic on Google quite regularly, but haven't had much luck.
