Yeah, the communication and delegation of command & control that's in BF2 was great (Commander talks to squad leaders, squad leaders talk to commander and their squad members). Orders and feedback ("enemy spotted" etc) were quick and easy. Commander responding by order another squad to assist or ordering you out of the way as he sends artillery in. No other setup has anything close to as effective.

Getting amped up for this game!

Oh your right I did forget about MAG. I only played the beta for that one, but I don't think the graphics are anything close to what Battlefield is known for.

This would be a welcomed change from BC2, that was my biggest issue with that game.

Edited OP, and we get a first glimpse of the game during GDC 2011.

Old news, but can't wait to see BF3 in action.

Not me, I loved the chat in BFBC 2. I hate listening to mic static, mumbling players, whiners and a constant stream of F-bombs while I play. I would love it if every online game was like the chat in BFBC 2. I like having casual conversations with my friends while I play without listing to everybody else who I don't care about.

You wouldn't be able to understand anything if 32 to 64 players were able to all talk to each other at once. It'll be some modified version of what was in Battlefield 2, ie, Uxi's post. Each member of a six man squad can communicate amongst each other, save the Squad Leader who can also communicate with the Commander.

xbox / xbox 360 had it right for BF2MC............you can only talk to the entire squad when you press and HOLD a button ala a walkie talkie

only way to talk otherwise when when in proximity of a fellow teammate

plus you could vote to kick teammates who didnt shut up

And it's far more realistic. Commanders talking to officers/leaders but not micromanaging individual troops. Especially with 31 subordinates, that would be too many pieces to juggle. So the commander juggles his 5-6 squad leaders, who each manage their 5-6 guys.

IIRC you can broadcast stuff out to everyone, at least by keyboard... but then the enemy can hear/read it, too... so it's usually used for taunting and such.

That said I always thought it would neat to have intel guys trying to 'hack' into the communications of the enemy... with counter-intel types trying to keep them out (and/or re-encrypting).

do you really trust some joe schmoe to relay the communications?
this isnt the REAL army/navy where they are trained to speak and communicate.
these are teenagers, drunks, people with families etc who will be commanders and not give a siht about you or your position. nor will they have time to relay a message to someone else who then relays your message.

sure if youre in a clan setting this may be useful, but 99% of the time youre NOT in a clan match and youre just in regular servers playing with randoms (even if your clan is with you, its not an official clan match) having ONE PERSON being designated a 'speaker' is dumb.

I see potential pros and cons as far as communication. Don does make a good point. not seeing things going well if you get a douchebag or camping sniper for a commander. or even worst if the squad leader or commander doesnt even have a mic

on the flip side, i would imagine that you would have to prove your worth for one of these positions(rank, skill level ect.)

rank means nothign besides playing a lot.
its all points based.

as you can see, im all NOT IN when it comes to one person doing the communicating for me.

if i see something, i can say it myself to my teammates.

if someone has a buzzing mic or whatever, then ill tell everyone to 'vote to kick' and off the peon goes.

Probably like BC2. Extra/early gun, early unlocks, and the EA VIP bullshit. Your run-of-the-mill EA "limited" edition pre-order bonuses.

No kidding, probably the only reason 40-60% of people actually got that game. I better get that beta to make up for it since it was utter crap.

And I love how they announce Battlefield 3 and people are asking about BC3. You people are killing me.

I don't remember a lot about it, and pretty sure it did this, but the one thing Medal of Honor did right (whoah I can't believe I said that...) was the ability to toggle VOIP. So you could set it to squad only or toggle it to team. We often did this and talked to ourselves but if we saw a stupid 12-year old we would toggle over and yell at them or you could toggle over and point something out to the team.

The one thing about it was it was through the menu so if it was intense action you were a bit SOL if you needed to toggle team/squad on/off.

The communication thing can be difficult. Being able to communicate to the whole team would be nice but can get confusing on big maps. I thought MAG did a decent job. Didn't it have proximity chat? People in a certain radius could hear you no matter what squad they were on. However, with that I also believe the other team could hear you too. If BF3 had squad and proximity chat I think that would work pretty good, then you hope the all the leaders can communicate decent enough from there.

Either way I will have this game on launch.

I also bought MoH and that game was horrible. I got about 2 days out of it until I shelved it. Hopefully for my money I will get a a FREE beta code. Well not free 60$ plus tax.
