United Kingdom George Lucas' THX 1138 – is the UK version different than the US version?

I can't find answers on this question anywhere on the internet. Can someone who know please share their knowledge?

I have tried to get answers in the North American thread, but with no results:

Does the UK version have the same movie specifications, subtitles, and extra features?

I have checked www.dvdcompare.net, but they have only listed the US version, and I don't know of any other BD comparison websites.

Help would be very much appreciated!

Apart from the languages, Warner's discs are always the same worldwide. If the US disc has European and Nordic subtitles, it's almost guaranteed to be the same disc as in the UK.

Thank you. But as I quoted, I've already checked that website.

The US BD has Nordic subtitles. So you really believe the UK BD to have the exact same audio and video encodes, and the same extra features?

Sorry I didn't notice that you'd checked the DVDCompare site. I think a lot of Warners discs are ported over here as well. Most have the FBI Warning on them and thats a good sign. If the UK disc has the FBI Warning I'd say the AV is a port as well. I can' think of any cases that UK discs have the warning and aren't the same transfer as well.

Yes, like I said, video, main audio and special features are always the same between all Warner discs. Sometimes the US disc only has additional languages for America (usually French, Spanish, Portuguese) while the UK has more. In this case though it's likely the same disc is used for the US and Western Europe.

Another of Lucas's films that he fudged up with horrendous CGI, most are subtle tweaks to be fair but there's a sequence that is beyond poor that was added.

This outlines the changes made (to the 2004 dvd anyway).

He's a monster! Another one where we should have had the original theatrical version alongside the Director's Cut. If you notice the change then they probably weren't a good idea.

I don't mind most of the changes in themselves so much, but many of them are so poorly done. Much of the added CGI is very obvious, the extended car chase looks like a remote-controlled toy car driving around, and the 3D scorpion and monkeys are just terrible.

THX-1138 is not on Blu-ray unfortunately. The new CGI director cut is though. it is an abomination.

Wonderful grammar BTW. These Northern Europeans have a better grasp of English than English speakers!

Fortunately, though, it is on Blu-ray, as the director wanted it.

Yes, but he's got a severe personality disorder and will never get what he wants ergo it is not the film as he "...wanted it."

If people keep buying this shit he'll keep CGI'ing it again and again. And again.

I prefer the art from the original Blu-ray release. Seems more darker and reflects the film's idea of stripping away identity more.

Yeah I love the original poster. I like this one also though. Might just keep the old copy as well because of the cover! Unless this one is reversible? Doubt it, coming from WB.

Does anyone know if the re-release of THX with original poster art is the version that ships from Amazon UK? They show the artwork for the previous release but thought that was OOP? Any help appreciated, thanks.

Edit:

Here's a link - https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/ft7/THX-1...x+1138+blu-ray

The original UK release went OOP about three or four years ago, maybe longer! I think it's a pretty safe bet to order it now, it's just Amazon being lazy by not updating the artwork.

It's almost certainly the new artwork version. The previous edition which is OOP had playback issues - my copy didn't play on my Panasonic player, so I sold it on eBay and bought the new version which apparently has fixed the problem.

Hope if these rumoured Star Wars reissues do show up, WB might consider releasing the theatrical version of THX 1138 on Blu-ray. Maybe one day...

Cool, that's what I was hoping. Thanks for the responses!

The theatrical version of THX on Blu would be awesome and how I would prefer the film to be presented but I just can't see it eventuating any time soon if at all. Who knows? maybe it will, but I don't have the patience so I'll likely go ahead and order the director's cut - I can live with it.

Theatrical versions of the original Star Wars trilogy on Blu on the other hand would be huge, like mega huge! That is something I will hold out for in hope as I have the theatrical versions on DVD to tide me over for now.

It is. I bought it from there a few months ago hoping to get the old cover only to get the new one instead.
