If all films get new transfers then I'll definitely pick up the set.
While I liked the Donner Cut a lot, I consider it to be more of an awesome special feature than an actual movie due to the mismash quality of some of it.

Well, it looks like it's coming but I'm still suspicious that they would release this now, with the SUPERMAN reboot coming next year.

At the very best, this'll be a straight transfer of the dvd set which would at least mean that we got the original cuts of I and II. But what's more likely is that this is just the existing discs packaged with HD versions of III and IV.

That would leave room for a new set next year, possibly containing a remaster (and extended edition) of RETURNS, the cartoons in HD, the original theatrical versions, and so on. Or, indeed, for standalone versions of the above.

Whichever way - call me a cynic but I'm suspecting a last-ditch cash grab with this one. I won't be buying just to upgrade III and IV.

Count me in on that aswell. I thought Supergirl was not too bad, although not great. I've got the standard dvd and the ltd Anchor Bay release and would certainly pick up the blu-ray.

I dunno, this set looks similar to the Batman Anthology which was released in 2009 when there was not a Batman film coming out for another few years. Since it sounds like the new film is going to be pretty much seperate from the previous ones, the same as the Nolan films are seperate from the original Burton/Schumacher films, I am not sure if they would release another set when the new film is coming out as a tie in.

If anything I could maybe seeing them having this same release but with an offer for a free movie ticket or maybe individual releases of some of the films.

My interest in this set just soared. I've never seen any of the films in their entirety and, being a big Batman fan, I've always wanted to see what the fuss was about regarding Superman, so I may pick this up eventually.

The site is one of the best in the world for DVD-Blu-ray news, it's not a shop, it's an information site like this one... They spoke with Warner Home Video directly...

Pushed the button on this one. I have the 13-Disc Collector's tin (which I still haven't got through!), but with the current price and what you're getting for it, it was too good to pass up. I can always cancel if I change my mind.

But does that mean only the theatrical cuts? If so I might end up passing. They could easily include the different versions.

Info on the set at Play.com reads:

For the Superman completist, a bumper collection of all five films in the Superman saga.

Superman: The Movie - Special Edition sees the birth of a legend as we are introduced to the titular superhero and his Kryptonian origins. Also included is the expanded edition, which features an additional eight minutes of screen time.

This is followed by Superman II - Special Edition in which our boy in blue must do battle with three escaped super criminals bent on destroying the earth. Presented here in both its theatrical and director's cut versions, the latter is expanded by an alternate beginning and ending, as well as 15 minutes of restored footage of Marlon Brando as Jor-El.

In the third instalment in the franchise, Superman III - Deluxe Edition, Superman learns of his Achilles heel when he is exposed to kryptonite.

The penultimate Superman IV - The Quest For Peace sees the Man of Steel take on Nuclear Man, culminating in an explosive showdown of epic proportions.

When the Super One returns to Earth in Superman Returns - Special Edition, he discovers that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life, and must figure out how to protect a world that has learned to survive without him.

Ah, John! Good to see you. I've departed that other site as I was rather sick of being treated like a naughty child by the "Commander".

Good to see I don't have to lurk there to benefit from your keen-eyed news-scouring.

Still a discrepancy between the 5-disc and the 8-disc there, though.

I'll definitely be buying this if they include all the special features from the DVD set, including the cartoons, documentaries, etc. I suspect if it's an 8 disc set that they can fit all that on the blu ray discs.

Here's two cents from a non-Superman fan:

Superman: The Movie - Good, not great.

Superman II (both cuts) - See above

Superman III - Fairly bad movie, but features one scene that scared the crap out of me as a kid! That's something, i guess?

Superman IV
- Complete trainwreck, just downright horrible! But almost so bad it's good... Nuclear Man is hilarious, c'mon!

Superman Returns - Good, not great, but after the last two (plus Supergirl) people should be grateful!

Those coupled with some (from what i heard) amazing extras in what i can imagine as an excellent package overall, i think it's deemed purchase-worthy! Just waiting for it to drop to 24,99 GBP like Alien Anthology did very quickly
