my heart sinks as I read this thread. people reffered to as tools or calling their posts shitpiles, and other unsavory terms. this from the people rallying for a return to the more mature ways of blu-ray.com. even this thread has degenerated. it is now civil war between the people labeled to as ''war mongers'' and the ones who throw out such labels. usually I am sarcastic and take everything here lightly, sure it may seem childish to many of you but come on. we are now declaring open season on other members of this site? I stopped looking at the blu blood threads after they ballooned in size then ventured in to see the chaos that had ensued. come on everyone.

this is madness. and i'm not being sarcastic or quoting 300.

buyathons are fun for some. but I suppose one persons simple ammusement is another ''childish antics''.

I miss the days when there wasn't a thread *****ing about something and then another thread *****ing about said *****ing. but I guess this post would be the third *****ing in such a line. so sorry if i've angered anyone with this, I guess you could just block me.

wow. damn that was serious of me. feels awkward.

At the end of the day, those few folks do have a little say so about how thing should be run and deserve a little curteosy. Something that should be extended to *ALL* members, no matter what "badge" they wear on the boards.

Your last comment speaks volumes about you. Nothing more to say.

What I don't understand is what makes anyone think that coming to a Blu-ray fan site and posting HD-DVD FUD, is giving the HD-DVD side any credibility. What purpose does it serve...productively speaking of course?

Now, the site has exploded into what it is now, which, I have absolutely NO problem with new people finding and appreciating Blu-ray. However, everyday I'm finding multiple posts and multiple members who don't seem to be here for that reason.

I'm talking about the increasing amount of posts and members who seem to be here for the format war, and not the format. If there were no format war, half of the posts in this forum would not exist, nor would most of the animosity and ignorance that has seemed to spread. If my first visit to the site had been within the last two weeks, I would have been very unimpressed with what I've found. For some reason, we need a rally thread to buy more discs for every little news announcement. We all like Blu-ray, and if we see something we want, we'll buy the damn thing. We don't need instructions on the importance of this. We seem to have some sort of petition or letter writing campaign for every bit of bad news. We have people who start and advertise their trolling threads in other forums, and then the same people ***** because somebody got pissed that they're trolling, but then expect people not to troll on our site. All of this is unnecessary, and really detracts from the feel this forum once had. I would expect that most people who are buying and appreciating Blu-ray are of some age that that make enough money to buy the things needed to appreciate Blu-ray, and I would expect a lot higher level of maturity from a lot higher proportion of members on this site.

So . . . flame me if you want, but I know there are a lot of people that agree with me. Nobody's a more valuable person than another because they chose Blu-ray over HD-DVD, and if you feel that you are because you made that choice, then you need to get a grip and discover that there are many things that are a LOT more important than the format war.

I and others would love it if we could focus a bit more on the format, and a lot less on the war.
Thank you! I've been trying to say this for a week now... But you put it much nicer than I did.

Very well put...couldn't have put it any better myself. Actually I wouldn't have because I would never have come up with something so insightful.

I completely agree with BStecke and BTBuck1. I started viewing this site in February of 07 and found more information in one place than anywhere else on the web. Now, we have a membership within a membership, a.k.a blu-blooded? Check out this link…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...247#post222247

Now our own are calling members out as Blu-Trolls, pathetic.

I want the opportunity to view this site and learn about upcoming technologies, current events in the market place, and trouble shoot home theater problems.

I can’t argue the point enough, but when you are trying to educate a DVD owner either being friend or family to upgrade, are you going to send them to this site? Have you posted things that you are comfortable with them seeing?

And yet you expect people to respect you and your "Blu-Bloods" and the "information" you give people? This place is getting depressing lately.

Well stated Z-Corp. I once learned in an executive training class..."don't do anything you would not be embarrased over if your family or friends knew it was you".

Good rule to live by.

Thank you very much for elegantly expressing what many of us feel. I have been visiting this site for about 6 months, and the last few months I have definitely noticed that the "noise to signal" ratio has gone down quite dramatically.

I don't wish to insult anyone, but something like the "blu blood" thread, however innocent its original intent, has devolved into an embrassment for this site and rationale BD supporters/owners.

I will like to share my perspective on this discussion. I fully agree that the opinions of others should be respected. I also understand that there are members which are more into the science and the enjoyment of the Blu-Ray format. I believe that the reason that some of us become “fanatical” is because believe in the present and future potential for the format. There are members that have participated in this forum since its inception. Usually, the established members of any community develop a stronger sense of ownership or entitlement. The “elder” members of the community should be given special treatment and consideration. However, in this forum there countless personalities and as many ways of expressing an opinion.

One of the main goals of this website should be to inform the members, and the general public regarding the Blu-Ray format. However, informing the public is never enough. There has to be enthusiasm associated with a given activity. One person, a small group, or even 11,000 members will not be enough to promote the adoption of Blu-Ray as the HD format of the future. An engineer is involved in the design and manufacturing of a product, but the marketing department will be an integral part of the product’s success or failure.

There should be respect in the forum. For example, members should not post a rumor in a thread where profile 2.0 is being discussed. However, there are many threads in the forum. The BUYATHON and Nielsen threads are usually, not the place to be impartial. Sure, at often certain topics can become childish and redundant. Nevertheless, I believe in the importance of creating commonality between the members of the forum. If certain threads are not to your liking, then it is best to participate in a thread more inclined with your given preferences.

I believe that the BUY-A-TOHN is very important, not because it will result in an immense amount of sales. However, the September 18th activity serves to motivate many members to actively promote the format. Promoting Blu-Ray, not only by purchasing the product, but by sharing with others the valuable information available to all of the members of this forum. I hope everyone has a nice day.

I'm mostly in sympathy with the complaints being aired out in this thread, but (with due respect) at this point I'd prefer to read some concrete, constructive suggestions re: how things should be improved. Do the forums need more rigid organizing somehow? Should prospective new threads be vetted by mods before being tossed up for replies? It's impossible to enforce a set of manners, so maybe something can be done to make it easier for readers to "winnow the grain from the chaff" to their own taste (e.g. when it comes to separating the opinion threads from the more fact-oriented threads). Any ideas?

Oh I don't know...

1)Moderators who actually post here for starters (not disapear for months at a time),

2)Mods who actually own the equipment they discuss, (how one ramps up over 2,000 posts when they have no personal experience with is stuff is beyond me).

3)Or who don't ignore you when you report repeat offenders or act bothered when you inform them.

How's Those for starters?

If the powers that be would like to know who I speak of, they may conact me privately.
