It's a good movie, overhyped i believe but still good. I'll likely pick it up when the price is right.
Ok, so you strongly disagree. The strangest part is that you didn't even explain why.

I disagree too..... but I don't think it needs much explanation.

You said it was Pacino's best film (not sure if you mean his acting in it, or the film as a whole was the "Best" he's been in.... either way he's been in much better films)

Well here in the UK there are 3 versions up for pre order.

Amaray 3disc set, Triple play Steelbook, and LE cigar box w/triple play steelbook etc.

So I should think US would get an amaray too.

Sorry i was at work and had to make my original post brief.

Well right off the bat you have the first two Godfather pictures. If you can argue that Scarface is better than either one of them i'd sure love to hear it.

After that i suppose it comes down to personal preference, but i prefer the following Pacino movies to Scarface.
  • Dog Day Afternoon
  • Carlito's Way
  • The Insider
  • Glengarry Glen Ross
  • Serpico (this one is borderline for me)

THIS is the best BD announcement for quite some time IMO. Day one purchase for sure. This is one of my all time favorite movies. Only the announcement of Jaws or Jurassic Park could have equalled this for me. I can't wait!

I'm all over this and while I'm sure it will be a good transfer, these big catalog releases always scare me because we've been let down so much in the past. Why do I feel so terrified that this transfer is gonna end up splitting people down the middle and some are gonna really hate it and vice versa.

Definite buy for me. The inclusion of the 1932 flick on DVD makes it a total no-brainer.

Hooray for montage scenes!

Why is the 1932 the DVD only? I already have that on DVD!

Can't say it's his "best film" but guessing you haven't had a chance to see The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, And Justice for All, or Serpico. These all contain GREAT Pacino performances.

But I do really like his performance in Scarface

That is great to hear about it's release.

But isn't anyone disappointed that the new blu ray release only comes with a DVD of the Howard Hawks 1932 Scarface. I would certainly love it that it came with the HD version. I'd get it just for that reason.

No, I have seen all of these and I still feel that it is his best film with Dog Day Afternoon and The Godfather right behind.

Default About Time.

It is about time for this announcement to be made, I've been waiting for it for some time now but once the Star Wars was announced I had a feeling that a lot of the big films would announce releasing to compete in September. I'll have a big spending time in September.

Day 1 purchase for me, its a shame about the cover art though. And that big blue stripe along the time is so ugly and getting old. I like the UK version better, it just has a subtle "B" logo in the bottom corner.

I cant believe the cigar box set is going for $1000.00. Are they out of their minds at universal? I wouldnt buy the cigar box by itself, let alone with a blu ray.

Scarface is such a timecapsule from the '80s. I'm always puzzled how it can be considered overhyped by so many. In my opinion it earned and continues to deliver on every ounce of hype it's ever generated -- it's so over the top; so hilarious. If there's any movie that lives up to its hype, it's Scarface.

And the montage -- certainly one of the most legendary of all time.

I still haven't seen the humidor in question, but I think I would have bitten at ~$100; at 10x that, I'm going to live vicariously through one of the members here. Seeing as respectable wooden humidors can be had for ~$50 (and hardwood ones for $80+), I can see only the most ardent fans of the film shelling out for this (which I am not).
