Favorite Star Trek Series

Since I posted this I've had the opportunity to have a Star Trek marathon. From late August 2011 through late October 2012 I watched every series and movie. Prior to this I had only seen all of the Next Generation (mutiple times) most of the TOS, and scattered episodes of the remaining series. Well after six months of reflection here is how I rank trek:

1) DS9
2) Voyager
3) STNG
4) Enterprise
5) TOS
6) TAS

All trek is pretty good (well except for the animated series).

TNG for me. Grew up with it. Although I enjoy the other ones as well TNG will always be my favorite.

Voyager is the only Star Trek series I gave up watching. It was just so mind-numbingly bland and repetitive with lots of reset buttons and technobabble solutions to boot. Didn't care about any of the characters or their self-indulgent holodeck fantasies. I did come back to watch the series finale and it probably cost me a few brain cells. Reminds me a lot of Smallville in that way.

You can't judge The Next Generation properly based purely off season one and season two.

...well, I suppose you could, but you wouldn't have a proper perspective on the series. Even everyone associated with the creation of the show recognizes that the first two seasons are sub-par for the most part. There are some stellar episodes in there, but there's far more poor episodes.

And some Trek fans speak poorly of Into Darkness because

DS9 is the best and my favorite.
I really like ENT and grew up with TNG which has lots of mediocre episodes and lots of great gems.
I have to re-evaluate TNG when it's completley on Blu.

1. DS9
2. TNG
3. ENT
4. VOY
5. TOS
Still not sure why TOS is so beloved, it's easily the weakest of the 5 series.

The Next Generation is easily my favorite. The early episodes are a bit shaky, but once it found its footing it delivered lots of great stuff consistently. Frankly, IMO, it's the best science fiction television series of all time.

Enterprise is a close second, though. I don't care what anyone says, that was a good show. (Okay, the fourth season suffered from a bit of forced fan service at times, but it was still entertaining.) It's made me happy to see in recent years that once-haters are starting to reevaluate it and realize that it was pretty good. I just wish they had realized that at the time so that it could have gotten the full seven seasons it deserved.

I watched DS9, but got bored with it after a few seasons, and Voyager I could just never get into at all. Didn't care for any of the characters.

I watched scattered reruns of The Original Series when I was little, but for whatever reason just never really got into it completely. With that original crew, though, I was much more about the feature films.

Yes, it only started getting good in season 3 but overall it's my favorite, no question.

I've only seen TOS, TNG and Voyager and didn't really care for any of them. I enjoyed the first two Star Trek movies and the reboots.

Give DS9 a try, although it shares certain Trek tenets it's also the most un-Trek-like in many ways.

Takes a while to get going as there's a lot of groundwork being laid in the first couple of years, but once it gets going, it's golden.
