I've been playing a few fan made revisions of Mario World. I've even tried my hand at altering them, since this one promising game has a few defective parts.

I just beat DOOM and DOOM II in their PS1 incarnation. Played them a little too much. When walking down a hall, in real life, I'd think something like "better strafe past that corner because there could be a Hell Knight waiting for me there".

Breath of Fire IV for PS, now emulated via PS3 Store.
Thought I was getting BoF3, which I'd loved twelve years ago, but turns out I've....never played this one.

(Like a good game of FF7, a childhood spent playing old-school RPG's never leaves you. Even if FF 12+ drop the ball by evolving past the player's simple ability to play them, the old-schools will always be there for you.)

I was giving this a hard look just a few days ago.

How do you like it so far? I was a huge fan of BoF for the SNES, so I figured it would be fairly decent.

I ended up spending some PSN coin on Crystal Defenders instead. Tower defense game, which has been pretty fun so far.

(sigh) Had to retire my old Mac OS9 desktop versions of Doom II, after 10.5 made the old system extinct.
Used to play it for hours, just to plug in those fan game .WADs with Bullwinkle, Star Trek, MST3K and Holy Grail sound effects.
(Still got them somewhere, for anyone with a retro system.)

And you think you had it stuck in your head--Me, if I'm remembering walking around some place with confusing wandering corridors and get a sense of deja vu, I literally think for a moment, "Wait, am I remembering something from my dreams, or a Doom II level? "

BoF 3 & 4 for PS were basically disk-based extensions of the SNES games, with slightly better graphics and scenery (a "3D" 3/4 aerial view instead of overhead), longer story and more "animation" in the plot scenes.
3 had a more fun storyline to play, but you could move directly from SNES to BoF4, as if no years had passed.

After realizing that neither of us had actually played every one to completion, my friend and I are going through all the Super Mario platformers from Super Mario Bros. 1 all the way to Super Mario Galaxy 2. Any game with a 2 player option we use it, otherwise we switch off whenever someone dies or finishes a level.

So far we are up to Super Mario 64.

That sounds pretty awesome, and totally fun. Do you guys happen to have the original Super Mario Brother 2? If you do, that will definitely add some time to this little venture.

Also, are you counting the Super Mario All-Stars for SNES?

Oh man...yes, of course, my friend! There is the Super Mario Brothers 2 that released in the United States, which as you probably know is the one where you can choose which character to play between Mario, Luigi, Princess, and Toad. This is the one that most of us here in the States knew for the longest time.

The "real" Super Mario Brothers 2 is one that is more like the original Super Mario Brothers, where you smashed bricks, jump on Koopa Troopas, and only play as Mario. This was released in Japan. Apparently it was "too hard for Americans" so they released the version that we know as Super Mario Brothers 2 (that I mentioned in the first paragraph).

The way most of us found out about the real Super Mario Brothers 2 (I include myself in this group) is by way of the game called "Lost Levels," which was released on the Super Mario All-stars cartridge for the SNES. This is a reboot of the original, which changed sprites and background and stuff so that is was suitable for play on the SNES.

I have recently played the Japanese version of Super Mario Brothers 2 in its original form

, and it is definitely hard — much harder than any of the NES Mario games. I highly recommend it, especially when considering the quest you're on. It's the only way to truly beat them all.

Or play as Luigi. He ran slower but jumped higher.

True, but I didn't want to confuse the issue. I was just saying for all intents and purposes, the game was basically like the first SMB. I wish we would have had that one in the USA back in the day. I would've loved it then.
