Finally saw the 3D trailer on the big screen, the one where Gandalf introduces Bilbo to the Dwarves that will venture on with him in part I and II, part 2 showing the dragon Smaug and the great war.
I can say my fears about the Hobbit I's 3D not being good as some suggested, have been put to rest. The Hobbit I 3D looks excellent in 3D, with impressive distance between the 3D layers, which indicates they didn't have the cameras too close together, which would've resulted in a flatter look as in Tron Legacy 3D. When they filmed this in 3D, they knew what they were doing, which is a relief. I'm not saying it couldn't have been pushed a bit more, but what's here looks great. ![]() The trailer was a little slow in pacing, showing mostly just character moments, with only a glimpse of the Trolls in the forest. 3D for the trailer? I'd give it an A, compared to most 3D movies out there. |

Of course if one didn't like the trilogy Rings, then this probably won't convince them to see it. |

Can't wait for this one. Don't know if I want to see it in 3D at my cinema though.. passive 3D and all 3D presentations have been shit there although I haven't seen any true 3Ds, only converted crap. The only real 3D I've seen at a cinema was Avatar which looked amazing, but that was so long ago that I can't even remember and I still don't have a copy.
Anyways, LOTR is my all time favourite movie so it will be a blast. Might watch this one in 2D at the cinema.. but not sure. They are using real 3D technique when shooting this and it's not some random amateur director/producer :P |

No problem. The Hobbit (book) has just as much adventure as LOTRs, so this should deliver. Quote:
Seeing it twice is a good way to prove to oneself what you saw the first time was accurate. I saw Avengers twice, and the 2nd time gave me a better impression of the 3D being strong. We'll see if the actual movie delivers on that caliber, but The Hobbit 3D should be consistent hopefully, since it was filmed in 3D and not converted like Avengers (where they can improve the 3D of only the trailer, while the rest of the film has average 3D, but I hope not). |

Obviously there is a few people here that just didnt get it. For every masterpiece there is a whole slew of 1-sided minds that just cant get their heads around perfection. As for the people that do get it, well, you know!!!!

Really looking forward to The Hobbit 1 and 2 3D. The Rankin Bass cartoon "The Hobbit" was really good, along with the book, and reminds that there is plenty of adventure ahead, as Bilbo goes out on his dangerous quest. The 3D, if it lives up to the trailer, will not disappoint me. |

they sure will. I recently read posts by very obvious 3D haters who said .
That Clash of the Titans 3D and The Last Airbender 3D had much much better 3D than either Avatar 3D or How to Train Your Dragon 3D had when they saw them, hoooo boy!!! |

I am really curious to know what's going to happen with the 48 Frame rate at cinemas. Traditional IMAX theatres have tried film at 48FP, but it was too bulky... so what will they do.
<<Dolby is being very mum on the subject on which theatres will be outfitted to playback in Atmos for 'Brave' - oh the anticipation!>> I had a quick look at the IMAX BFI in london when I was there to see prometheus and looked to me to have the necessary speakers to do this. |

I assume that's because IMAX film is very bulky, and that this will be shot and projected digitally.
3 hours of movie + 2 filmstrips for 3D + twice as many frames = excessively bulky film... |
