I don't think Lost was driven by many ideas other than a desire to fool the audience into thinking it was really deep. Perhaps I should watch more than half of it, but lots of people seem to tell me it was at its best in the first couple of seasons - is that not the common consensus? Is the latter half better?
+1. I stop with Lost half way into season 3. Oh! I know now all the fans will say "it got better right after that". Always the same defense. Let's review what Lost was all about.

Week 1 = there is some mysterious things going on over there behind those bushes, let's go have a look and let's hope some one does not die or dissapear while we do so.

Week 2 = Ok so we still don't know what was mystery 1 from week one but look over there, in that field, something weird is going on, let's go have a look, maybe we can find loser number one who got lost, kidnap or kill last week?

Week 3 = Wow! I know we still don't know what happen the previous 2 weeks and we are still looking for Jo, Jack & Jill but can you believe this another mysterious thing is happening on the hill over there, let's go have a look.

Week 4, 5, 6, 7 ....... read review from week 1 to 3 and you will know what happen.

Overall Lost for me was boring. Next time I want to listen to something and not being told what is going on, I can listen to C-Span, at least the clowns on that channel are funnier.

I liked Battlestar Galactica but I would say Lost. This whole topic is very subjective just like what my favorite move is compared to someone elses. It all depends what your interests are, they were both well made shows. I am the biggest fan of Lost and will be the first to admit that season 3 is the weakest of the series, but it was because the writers did not have an end date to the series and were watering down episodes with pointless content. BSG is strong throughout and have no problem recommending that as well. I will say that both are available on netflix for instant steaming so why not give each show a chance and then make your decision.

Just read the first post where you are watching season 2 of both. If you can only get one now even though I am the bigger lost fan I think you can get BSG for cheaper so you could get that now and always wait till black friday to get lost.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you suggesting that the fact that BSG was shown on a cable network as opposed to a broadcast network speaks to its quality?

If so, I have to disagree and not just a little.

Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Men of a Certain Age - these are all as good as tv gets.

And even the next tier down - The Closer, Stargate: Universe, Haven - can be pretty solid too.

Cable networks are providing some very strong original programming.

See I only feel that towards the middle of that season. By the end, it's just amping up the end-game when they decided half-way through to plot the rest out.

Of course, the
[Show spoiler]crap at the beginning with all the cages and stuff just gets annoying, but the only real "no point" episodes are the "Locke becomes a grower" and the "Jack goes to the Orient" stuff. Once everything gets going about 3/4 of the way through, it's really clear they finally had an endpoint in sight when they begin to set off the "how we get off the Island" plot. (Oh, and I'm one of the few that *does* like the Nikki and Palo episode, it's a nice little distraction and I just like the story.)

But...it's true.

I found the beginning of Season 3 to be frustrating -
[Show spoiler]I too didn't like the "WHY ARE THEY DOING THIS? WHY ARE YOU IN CAGES???" crap
and towards the middle of the season they just seemed, well, lost, LOL, but right when they get past that garbage (when they took their break and figured out the path to the end) the end-game kicks into high gear.

When I was rewatching S3 on Blu I was prepared to just slog through it, and as I got past the mid-point I had forgotten just how good the last 1/3 of the season was. The entire endgame is laid out, and you finally see that, yes indeed
[Show spoiler] they are going to get off the damn island
.

Season 4 and 5 were pretty much perfect to me...S6 my only complaint was that knowing what the
[Show spoiler]Sideways Flashes
were all about I just wished they hadn't spent the whole season on them. Great idea, just would have worked better being introduced in the three-part finale, and not spending the whole season with them.

It took me a while and much coercion on behalf of my two friends who loved the show to get into BattleStarGalactica - however LOST I fell in love with right away and watched beginning to end from the moment it aired...Great series!

I love LOST (and BSG) but I prefer LOST in a slight edge. IMO season 2 was the weakest of the 6... by season 5, the show is completely crazy and nothing like the first couple of seasons... BSG did the same thing, shifting its storylines halfway though so that you still had the same "core" of the show, yet it evolved into something almost new and different. I love seasons 4 and 5 of LOST, and anyone who stopped before that can't really comment on the show as a whole.

Lost is probably one of my top 10 shows of all time but I'm baffled that anyone that watched all of both series thinks Lost is better than BSG.

Lost meandered a lot and didn't really have an overall cohesive story arc. There were only a few characters that really felt three dimensional and not like they were just a role. As much as I loved it, Lost had loads of things that just took away from the overall experience for me.

Battlestar, on the other hand, did a great job of fleshing out a lot of the characters in a meaningful way (not just giving them a past). The creators clearly had a master plan before they started. It directly addressed topical societal issues like faith, abortion and terrorism.

Whether or not you agree with the religious themes (I am very much an atheist), you should at least be able to appreciate the story told.

Battlestar, for me, is right up there with the HBO greats. Lost is just great for a network show.

Great analogy, with which I would have to agree (altho I did purchase BSG on Blu, not Lost...but that was more due to pricing than anything else).

It's a tough choice all around. U really can't go wrong with either.

For me BSG hands down if you like a good epic storyline and you are not intimidated or turned off by the sci-fi setting.

Lost if you want something more mainstream. I watched all 6 seasons of Lost last year and while I consider it good overall (compared to what you usually find on the big networks), in my opinion, is WAY OVERRATED.

I watched both as they aired. I only own BSG on blu.

I have no desire to ever watch Lost again. It was fun ride, but in retrospect, not as great as it seemed to be while it aired and there was the anticipation of what would happen next. Plus, while there were some very strong episodes (The Constant), there were also some very bad/boring episodes.

I'm on Season 3 of BSG and Season 6 of Lost.

All I have to say is that they are easily two of the greatest shows ever on TV.

For me, Lost. Lost captivated me in a way Battlestar never did. I've watched Lost quite a few times through, and I loved the ending. No show has had me glued to the couch week after week like Lost did.

Which show is better? They both have their strong points and weak points, and these points change depending on the season. I find it hard to compare the two when they are so different. To many people, it comes down to which show "moved" or "grabbed" them the most. Personally, both shows moved me about the same amount (as though that can be measured) albeit in different ways.

As some have said, you can't go wrong with either. I think both are equal in the essential-viewing department. It sounds like the OP intends to have both but can have only one right now, so I say it doesn't really matter which one you get because you'll have both eventually, anyway. I lean towards BG so I personally would probably get that first, but if I were to get Lost instead (yeah, unintended joke), that wouldn't kill me, either. Bottom line is, you win either way, so choose one and don't worry about it.
