Interesting to see this thread come back to life. I've recently started watching Buffy again from the beginning on Netflix, and there were a lot of episodes I'd missed over the years. I'll jump into Angel when I've finished with Buffy.

While I do hate the way they treat her (she's my 3rd favorite character in all the 'buffyverse'), season 4 is easily my favorite season. That structure is my ideal arc-structure, the way one tight storyline leads into another tight storyline a few times throughout the season.

I had Buffy with a slight edge. A good ending to Angel could've swayed me the other way. The ending was ok but, I wanted a little more.

Smile Time was genius... the muppet roundtable
I thought the demon possession route for Fred was handled a lot better than Cordelia and if they had more time they could've developed Fred/Ilithyia further
she could've been a constant angel/angelus type character

I'm gonna get started on some of the official canon like buffy season 8 and angel books. I'm a Whedonite, we're like minded people, I love everything hes put out so far.

I love his work too, but I find the comics to be rather weak...only recently have they gotten a bit better... we'll see what you think.

By the way, the Angel ones aren't canon (although if I remember correctly, the first storyline might be... someone else can back me up hopefully)

Yeah, ANGEL started to get real good, then WB pulls the plug on the show and it ends on a major cliffhanger. It was a real shame.

Angel hands down for me. I don't like Buffy the character that right there hinders Buffy the series. The characters I liked were Cordelia, Xander, Wesley and Angel and 3/4 of them ended up on the other show.

I also like that Angel is a more mature and darker show. It let my favourite character Cordelia grow tremendously, but unfortunately it also ruined the character in season 4 and the reason I had a hard time liking season 5.

Buffy!
But Angel is a pretty good Spin-Off.

Buffy and The X-Files remain tied as my favorite shows all-time, so obviously I cast my vote for BTVS.

Buffy for the poll, but the last season of Angel was better than the last four seasons of Buffy. The high school years are untouchable though.

I have to say Buffy has aged horribly but I still find Angel very very watchable.

I prefer Buffy well over Angel mainly for the high school years. Great storytelling and character development all the way. The addition of Spike made it even better.

I like Angel well enough and Cordelia continuing on there was a great move for her character, but I felt that her exit from the show was handled badly as was her last episode.

And as always Spike was another great choice.

He really should have gotten his own show out of this. That would have been fun.
