I'm curious---does this version have any special features? How does it stack up compared to the American release, which had the audio commentary and isolated score track? I did notice a number of these for sale on eBay; not exactly inexpensive, but certainly more affordable than the Twilight Time version.

There’s a cheaper European combo release - sorry if this is old news...

I don't often look at Ebay reviews, but this actually agrees with the generally prior Bluray discussions. Maybe not VHS, but extremely subpar transfer and at least a couple version based on a 25p master. I don't think the Norwegian version is the wrong speed at least, buy trying to get accurate info on these releases is ultimately frustating. "Don't waste your money This Blu-ray/DVD is terrible quality, no better than a VHS transfer from an old tape." The Brazilian Disc came out later and was purported to have the TT Transfer, but the audio was completely botched. The Japanese disc has promise though the pics of the back cover specs apparently disagrees with 1 or 2 people who have the disc. Runtime is list 143min and labelled 1080i with 2.0 audio. Someone later said the runtime and video spec was incorrect. I do know a couple people have ordered it recently and are waiting to hear more reports. If I was going to buy anything right now, I'd only consider the Japanese release, but unless my TT item is stolen I doubt I'll do that unless the price drops to $20-30 I'd love to see the side by side BDInfo scans of the Fr, Scand, Japanese disc compared to the TT. Not that it could tell you anything about the actual PQ, but it would make it easier to get rid of all the confusing tech information on the title Last edited by hariseldon; 06-01-2020 at 10:07 PM. |

The copy of the Japanese blu-ray I ordered arrived today.
It plays in my region A machine. It also plays in my region B machine. Run time is 139:44 It only has the 2 channel audio. There are Japanese subtitles. They are removable. There are no special features. I see a lot of graininess in the picture. Some reviews of the Twilight Time release from 9 years ago, say there is grain but that some DNR may have been applied to that release. This doesn't look like what some people have said about some of the European releases being from older masters. It does say on the back of the case in English copyright 2018 20th Century Fox Entertainment. I don't have a computer to play it in so I can only guess that what it says about it being MPEG-2 AVC is correct. I don't know if there is a way to find out from my players. I posted that spec. It came from the artwork insert itself. Info button on my Oppo shows AVC, but doesn’t specify whether it’s MPEG-2 or MPEG-4. However, the MPEG-2 printed on the insert is probably correct.

Only one TT Blu-ray though. That and their LE DVD counterpart were released at the same time on 7/12/2011.

I beg to differ. I bought the first edition and later also the second edition for a friend. Both are blu-ray discs--- and excellent ones at that. And both are from Twilight Time.

It was released and July 2011 simultaneously with the DVD and went OOP/Sold Out in April 2013. As far as I'm aware there was a single pressing run, a single cover, and it didn't have an ENCORE release. Last edited by hariseldon; 06-09-2020 at 09:22 PM. |

It was available for a couple years before selling out. It only had one edition.
I am curious about how much grain is visible on the Twilight Time version. All reviews of the time mention possible DNR. There is a lot of grain visible on this Japanese version, and to me it seems like more than in screen caps from the TT version on this site & DVD Beaver. |

Yeah, only one edition, which happily I have. It took a few years to sell out, but I'm not surprised about that, as it was very expensive, nearly $40. I think I read somewhere that Fox mastered it twice for some reason, & the TT release was their second & best go.
