World Trade Center on the other hand treated 9/11 like some kind of natural disaster. If you only watched that movie without any knowledge of what happened that day you could conclude 9/11 as some kind of earthquake or something. There is nothing that shows 9/11 for what it was a deliberate act of mass murder from religous extremists. |

I watched it once on TV. Whilst I applaud its tone and how its depicted, I find it very uncomfortable to watch. I actually feel sick and get angry when I see any footage of 9/11.
I still have the R1 DVD that I ordered about 3 years ago, still wrapped in its cellophane wrapping because I can't bring myself to watch it. Last edited by Ben_UK; 09-08-2011 at 08:33 PM. |

Just read the United 93 Blu-ray Review
They claim it uses a MPEG-4 AVC videocodec. HighDefDigest says in their review: Video Resolution/Codec 1080p/VC-1 Which one is the right one? In Europe they use the VC-1 codec. Other sites also say for the US version: VC-1 |

As to the movie itself, I saw it in theaters in 2006, thought it was well done and powerful then, but I haven't seen it since. And I even bought the DVD! It turned out to be one of my examples of why I ought not buy so many DVDs (Blu-rays now); I don't always get around to them.
So with that in mind, rather than buy this on BD, I'm just going to rent it on Apple TV in the next day or two to watch it. Better to do that for 4-5 bucks than spend more on a BD I'll only watch once or twice in the next several years. |

I wish blu-ray.com reviewer Jeffrey Kauffman would get on here or even just PM me and explain exactly what he means when he refers to the terrorists in the film (and of course in real life) "hijack[ing] their own religion." I'm really perplexed by this comment and I'm wondering what scholarly work he has accomplished to arrive at such a bold conclusion.

well I've heard that phrase used many times over the years to refer to the actions of Islamic terrorists.
(and I'm sure the reviewer has also, which is why he wrote that) It's actually been used quite often. Experts everywhere have said that these extremist elements have in essence "hijacked Islam"--meaning they have taken elements of a religion that is largely known as peaceful and twisted the teachings in the Koran to justify and rationalize their calls for Jihad against the West. Is there something else you are confused about as far as the use of that phrase? Last edited by Arkadin; 09-10-2011 at 04:23 PM. |

Yes most Muslims are peaceful and do not endorse terrorism but this has no bearing on what the Koran teaches. If all Muslims were peaceful and Islamic terrorism didn't exist at all it still wouldn't make the Koran peaceful. Most of the worlds Musilms simply identify with the religon of there parents and many memorize sermons in Arabic even when they don't speak Arabic and thus don't have a clue what there own religon teaches. The same phenomina can be found among Jews and Christians who profess there faith while knowing nothing about it. Even when confronted with the Korans more violent verses oftentimes Muslims will either abandon there faith (a risky venture in many parts of the world where ex-Muslims fear death) or simply say "that verse isn't literal" in order to retify there good natured hearts with teaches of there parents religions that seem to contradict it. All this is evidence that Muslims like Christians and Jews rarely get there morals through scripture Fact is if you read the Koran and study Islamic history its clear that the Koran as well as Islam in its original purest sense fully endorses terrorism. Paradise is garenteed for those who slay and are slain for Islam. Keep in mind that this is the only garuntee of salvation in the entire Koran. It takes very little twisting or hijacking to see such verses and fully endorsing terrorist acts like the ones we saw on 9/11. Also not a single verse in the Koran professes Allahs love of non-believers. As a matter of fact it details a second place status for them in this life called Dihimmitude (one that has been viciously enforced throughout the centuries) and details horrible punishments they will face in hell in the next life. Other practices such as child brides, slavery, and honor killings are also fully endorsed by the Koran. Ive always said that religions should be studied with all there aspects including there negatives. Refusing to acknowledge verses in the Koran or the Bible that have had huge negative effects to society because its mean or politically incorrect is doing nothing but sticking your head in the sand Last edited by Jimmy Smith; 09-12-2011 at 01:50 AM. |

I had it on DVD, but don't think I'll get the Blu-Ray. No because it isn't good (it's very, very good), but because it is pretty intense.
I read the article in Rolling Stone a couple of months after that tragic day and this movie follows it fairly closely. It is amazing how they pieced this together [Show spoiler] This movie is heart wrenching. I'm glad I've seen it, but don't think I'll watch it again. |

I just ordered this on BD from Amazon.com along with World Trade Center. Buying these movies on Sept 11th felt like the right time to order them for my collection.
I have seen both in the past and both are outstanding. Very respectful movies of the events of that day. |

This is a great and powerful film. However, it is also one that I just can't watch. I've seen it twice; once at the movie theater and once on TV. I own the DVD, but have yet to actually watch it, and I've owned it for three years. I'm not sure if I'll buy the Blu-Ray or not, to be honest. This may be the best movie of 2006 in my opinion, but it is one that I just can't bring myself to watch because it's so depressing.
