Apparently Best Buy's Blu-ray of this will come with a bonus DVD that contains over an hour of exclusive bonus features. I have this Blu-ray pre-ordered at Amazon, but I'm going to have to cancel and buy it from BB.

I saw this over the weekend. Seriously strange film with some very funny moments but it seems to want to be a silly spoof one minute and then push gritty realism the next. The film's tone changes and bummer of an ending left me feeling pretty underwhelmed.

I pretty much agree with "V" about the film. I would describe it as a decent concept that just ends up being wildly inconsistent and uneven in tone and execution. Does it want to be Taxi Driver or a dark send up of super heroes? One of the people I went with described the movie as being just plain "mean", which I think is pretty accurate. The laughs are mostly the nervous / uncomfortable kind. With some script revisions and rewrites this could have been pretty solid, but as is it just does not seem totally right. Also, and I hate to say it because I really enjoy him on The Office, but I think that Rainn Wilson might have been the wrong choice for the lead. With all that said, if it seems interesting to you and you do not mind graphic violence and extreme situations, I think it is worth checking out, if only for the constant "what the f---?!" moments (and there are many). Just when you think the movie has gone over the top, just wait a few minutes and it will one-up itself. Ellen Page was also a lot of fun to watch as the wannabe sidekick (and VERY attractive in her outfit...wow). Even though I didn't love it, I am still gonna bite on the low price for the blu ray to show it to some friends and hope that it will maybe grow on me as well. |

The Best Buy by my house already had this out on the shelf today, so I picked it up. It was being sold for $19.99, and as previously noted there is a "Bonus DVD featuring over 1 hour extras, including: extgended scenes, director and cast interviews, emerald city comic con panel discussion, SXSW film festival premiere, and post gallery." I haven't watched the discs yet, but I'll probably get to them in the next day or so and report back if you're considering buying it.

Does the blu you picked up have a commentary track?

And there is a commentary available on the disc as well. I haven't watched the bonus DVD Best Buy exclusive disc yet, but the special features on the main blu disc are pretty solid. Also, I really have to give the PQ a thumbs up on the release. I was pleasantly surprised with it, as I thought it might not be the best based on the film being pretty low budget. |
