The Shameless disc suffers from pixellation.

What kind of animal abuse does it have in it? Is it really that bad?

I dunno. The movie was pure shock factor, didn't have much else to offer to me.

really you've never read or heard about this aspect of the film? It's basically a snuff film of animal killings - which ticks off a lot of folk.

here's the wiki link to said scenes:

I've heard about the film, saw a copy at Zia records. I just never knew about the animal part, nor have I watched it. Thanks for the link.

you're welcome

proceed with caution! it's pretty much a balls to the walls gore action flick.

there's also an implied 'acted' out abortion scene which while fake is still unsettling.

Grindhouse's DVD does offer the option to watch the film with the animal death scenes cut out if one is so inclined. I also find those sequences tough to watch so it was cool of Grindhouse to include such a viewing option.

That said, the film is not just a graphic shock film. It's quite well made, features a haunting score by Riz Ortolani, and does make a statement about which society is actually more cruel - the cannibals or us. It is also basically the first 'found-footage' film that BLAIR WITCH and others borrowed from years later. It's a powerful viewing experience, with or without the animal scenes, and any true horror-exploitation fan should check it out at least once, if they dare.

To each their own. I thought the social commentary was pretty obvious and I think the score is fantastic. It's definitely unpleasant to watch, but I think it's up there with The Evil Dead and Tenebrae as one of the more credible and well-made video nasties.

I went to a screening of "Pieces" at Beyond Fest last weekend, and someone from Grindhouse Releasing was there, announcing that Pieces would be coming out on BD early 2014!

It's worth mentioning, this film like Nekromantik uses extremely calm and soothing music during the more unpleasant scenes. You'd be using a song that's played during scenes of animal cruelty and fake gore that makes the stuff from the Evil Dead remake look tame and silly .

And it's also worth mentioning that the composer did the soundtrack for Mondo Cane 1 and 2, Africa Addio and Goodybye Uncle Tom (The semi-documentary where they show EVERY part of the slave trade, including the cleansings).

I find this movie both utterly repellent and completely engrossing.

Man I hope they crank this out before October of next year so I can do it was part of my horror marathon. Thought about importing a few times but I try not to as often as possible. Can't wait for this!

You guys are getting me so damn excited I want to explode! It seems like they don't announce these officially with cover art and specs until a few months before release at most so it'll be awhile on that front but the anticipation is killing me!

Same here. It's exploitative AND informative. BTW I don't know if I should recommend this but you should check Africa Addio from almost the exact same team. It's a masterpiece but two things:

1.- It's about Africa's descent into anarchy during the 60's.
2.- EVERYTHING IS REAL (Inluding the death scenes, both animal and human).

Animal deaths yes, humans no. Deodato had to present his actors and actresses to a court of law who were at the time in a contractual obligation to not disclose their whereabouts or status in order to make the film more authentic upon release. There are no actual human deaths despite claim from all those years back. It's disturbing enough with that anyway.

He was talking about AFRICA ADDIO, not CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST.

Awesome! I haven't seen that movie since it was first released on VHS in the early 80's!!

I've been a huge horror fan since the 70's but somehow I never saw Cannibal Holocaust so I'm looking forward to this one as well!
