Default Thor 3D Bluray Review

I have to agree I am not much of a Marvel fan but being the 1st proper release from Paramount I was hoping for something nice, the main menu in 3D looks pretty good and shows stars flying out of the screen at you. Press play and the movie starts the Panasonic logo which flys out of the screen into your face and looks very nice however it did tend to have a slight jutter to it and if you look close you can see a few lines running through it which look slightly interlaced.

The actual movie starts and I have to admit is far far to dark once you have slipped on the 3D glasses this I found to be very annoying, take the glasses of and you are able to see alot more, the movie has a lot of dark parts through out so this can get slightly annoying, the 3D in the movie is pretty non exsistant through out and you will find yourselve taking of the glasses off on a few occasions and wondering if you are even watching a 3D movie at all. As with other 3D movies you can clearly see the depth and look into the back ground of the movie with crystal clear imagery, this is simply not the case with this movie and back grounds do look blurred. Dont expect any pop outs on this movie as its a pretty much fat zero on that front.

The movie itself is great and one I will be watching again but do you need the 3D bluray "Not really" the normal bluray would be good enough and better in the dark scenes. As we all know this movie was not shot in true 3D and was converted after.

3D = 3
Audio = 8
Movie = 8

I figured this is how it would be. Aside from a few spots in the movie that looked real good, the rest is just depth 3D, and really not all that worth it.

I'll probably just end up getting the special edition at Best Buy.

Uh oh no pop outs? Shame. I'll buy this just for the story and hopefully some depth. But still shame.

How was the audio? I noticed you gave it an 8/10, but could you expand on that a bit? Good low end? How is the surround usage? Good dynamics?

Even the printout on the disc itself is lame. Much like TLA. It's sad but I will still buy this.

I remember watching thor in the theatre. I saw the 3d version. never saw it in 2d. I plan to get the 3d set and watch the 2d version. I do remember that it was a very loud movie.. its louder then any michael bay movie is.

Actually yes. The fact is that I already saw the 3d version in theaters and all of my problems with it were stated in this review. I loved the movie hated the 3d and did not have any other questions about the release. The fact of the matter is that some of use care about a slip cover and your snide remark will do nothing to change that.

Looking forward to this film. As for the review, my Panasonic TV (Which has been professionally calibrated) Gets brighter to compensate for the glasses darkening. I've never had a problem with a 3D movie being too dark.

Same.

I'd also go so far as to say Thor is my favorite post-conversion job yet (from the theater viewing). I liked not having a lot of 'in your face', but instead more 'natural' depth to it, so it doesnt detract from the movie itself.

I guess everyone's experience will be different, I'm just personally not all that worried about mine.

Picking up the 3D version for sure. Despite the horrifying lack of a slipcover.

Can you enlighten us? What is the big deal with slip covers?

Anyway, saw it at the movies, pretty sure it was a 2d conversion just jumping I the 3d gravy train. Looked 2d.

What I don't like here is how Blu-Ray is not putting their trademark logo on the front. Many cases of mistaken 3Ds have been logged already and you'd think they would have corrected already.

its just an opinion. its art for crike sake. i love slipcovers. they make your collection look classier. if you enjoy browsing your own collection, pulling movies off the shelf, and reminiscing about the flick, then you love slipcovers. i enjoy art, so when i get extra art with a movie i love, im super psyched. people who hate slipcovers dont love movies!

btw - in the thor bd thread someone posted a pic of the thor 2d and it had a slip so ill bet the 3d does as well. come on this is a big release...although sony doesnt slip their 3d releases. still dont know if im gonna go 3d or best buy excl. on this one. if the exclusive has a black case (rumored) then mayb that 1.
