Hey everyone. This thread has been quiet for a while, but I was hoping to get some help. I purchased a VSX-53 about 2 months ago and have been real happy with it. I just wanted to know what kind of settings you guys are using on yours. For example, what kind of video settings are you using? Are you using Direct, Pure Direct, Phase Control, something else?
I also have a sound meter and have tried calibrating using big daddy's thread but it doesn't seem right once I'm done. Voices are still overshadowed by everything else in the movies. Any help would be great! Thanks! |

I picked up the new Super Slim over Black Friday and once I finished the setup, I could not get my Pioneer vsx-50 Receiver to light up the indicator for DTS-MA HD. I am running cheap HDMIs I Picked up from Newegg so I do not know if that may be the case.
I have set my HDMI output to bitstream in the Video Settings and the DTS-MA HD box is ticked when I manually go through the sound settings. I popped in the LOTR Blu-ray and got no sound and the receiver is displaying "STEREO". When I set it to PCM, their is alot of static coming from the speakers. I am running a 5.1 speaker setup and the movie is 6.1 DTS Master HD, can this be the problem? I checked the track that is being run while watching the movie and it says DTS Master Audio and Multi-Channel 48khz. Anyone have a solution or has experienced this before? |

Re open box VSX-53. First thing I did was was a factory reset on the unit and remote. Checked the software version using the front panel. (1-191086119069). Updated via USB to 1-204-087-119-069. Took about 3 minutes.
Anyone have any comments about the AS-WL300 wireless dongle? Available on Amazon for about $104 and change. EDIT: After reading the multitude of bad reviews on the AS-WL300 on Amazon and elsewhere, I ordered the Netgear WNCE2001 / Universal WiFi Internet Adapter from Fry's for $39.99. I would like to hear from anyone using the AVNavigator. Pros? Cons? Are the graphs using AVNavigator better than the on-screen display from the TV? For the audio, I ran the Auto MCACC and checked the data. All the parameters that were set seem reasonable. Played segments of a couple of THX certified BD's with THX Cinema on. (Indiana Jones Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Avatar). Also some DTS HD MA 7.1 (Cabin in the Woods). Dialogue levels were fine in all cases. Baraka with DTS HD MA 5.1 96k/24 bit audio was spectacular. I haven't checked any of the streaming music options. I'm primarily a movie watcher. I'll probably order the wireless dongle in a couple of days if no issues with the unit show up. Before I hooked the unit up, I connected it to my network with Ethernet and the AVNavigator app I installed on my wirelessly connected laptop allowed me to view the default MCACC data and curves. I use Full Band Phase Control. I didn't care for Optimum Surround. I prefer Dynamic Range Control Off. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to set up the ARC for TV sound. In the HDMI setup, Control Mode has to be set to ALL for it to work. My 920-K did not have ARC. |

new firmware update: This update resolves an issue with connecting to Pandora's server.
Please note that all network setting, including the Pandora account information, will be reset to the factory default after the update. Write down these settings before the update as they will needed to set up the network again. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Just wondering: has anyone tested the video playback and AirPlay functionality of a 5th generation iPod Touch with any of these receivers? On Pioneer's website, audio playback was confirmed, but not the other features.
I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a 4th or 5th gen iPod Touch to use with my VSX-53. |

Guys -- I need some advice, and the sooner, the better.
I just bought a pair of Pioneer SC-1522-K receivers (I didn't pay MSRP on them -- my wife would kill me...and still may). They are still boxed up as are my Monitor 70 IIs, CS2 (are all CS2 centers Series II?) and Monitor 30 IIs. Would my current receivers that are in use (Pioneer Elite VSX-50 and Elite VSX-60) have any troubles pushing my new (but still boxed up) Polk speakers? I can't unbox them for a few weeks -- it was a promise I made to/deal I made with my wife. The 50 and 60 are 90x7, but I'll only be using a 5.1 config. Will the receiver do the speakers any justice? If not, I might consider upgrading to the 1522 (as a very last resort). I don't need the extra inputs, I don't need the extra features, I don't need the extra channels (heck, I won't be doing 7.2 anytime soon, let alone 9.2). I'm just wondering if I'll NEED (not WANT) the extra power. I'm hoping to solicit feedback ASAP. If you guys think the Elite VSX-60 will do a FORMIDABLE job, I'll just return at least one of the 1522s. I only have a small window before I'd have to return it, so the sooner I know, the better. Thanks guys! |
