Well, not really, if it's female nudity you're interested in. American Werewolf in London, Tomboy, Revenge of the Nerds and Xtro all pop to mind straight away as having a lot to see on the open matte versions.

Heavenly Creatures is a film that's somehow eluded my viewing all these years. Should hopefully get around to getting this release ealry next year. Shame the auduio isn't lossless, but at least it's in it's original mix. I'm sick of releases that only include awful & pointless 5.1/6/1/7.1 remixes.

Thanks for the Heavenly Creatures Blu-ray Review ProB. Shame about the disc fault... might hold off ordering just to clear out the bogus discs.

You are very welcome, sir.

The guys at Peccadillo apparently caught the issue very early so from what I am told the discs in the retail system are supposed to be fine. The issue was not on their end but somewhere in the production line.

You should really mention what cut this is? I suspect it to be the European cut going by the running time listed as it's too short to be the New Zealand cut which Pecadillo have foolishly not included. It's easily the better version, if not Jackson's favourite.

The real question is, is it the Euro or the American ("Heavenly" has THREE cuts!)

The way to tell is in the scene when Juliette discovers her mother in bed with the lodger.
If "Don't be stupid, he just wanted a cup of tea" is included - it's the European. If it isn't, it's the American which was also the UK theatrical as Buena Vista no doubt used secondhand American prints as is common for small releases.

This came out out on video when I was a pubescing lad (around 13 or so) and I absolutely fell in love with Kate Winslett. She was my teenage crush because of this movie.

So, how does the transfer look for this release? Does it look better than the American release?

A good question, the review of the UK disc is of one of the discs from the faulty batch.

I have the replacement disc and I'm still not convinced it's a great transfer. Only seen bits of it, but it looks kinda dull and grainy in a slightly unnatural way. The screenshots from the US release look better to me.

However, the UK version is the only way to get Jackson's preferred Theatrical Cut of the film.

I guess the reviewer couldn't be bothered to update it.

Have you asked the reviewer to do so, or are you just complaining now and waiting for them to read your comment?

I have it, and thought it looked damn good considering no work as been done to it.

If you weren't a scraggly brown alien I'd kiss you. Thanks for this! AND they sent me a 10% off code - sure, it only takes off about 60p but it'd be rude not to use it!

EDIT - got it and also got the 2-disc edition of The Lovely Bones, used, for less than a fiver off Amazon, just to boost up my Peter Jackson collection. I don't mind that it's used, I'm sure I'll only watch it once or twice and the 2-disc edition - with the apparently brilliant feature-length making-of - is OOP now.

The 2 Disc Lovely Bones was a bargain purchase & yes the making of is brilliant! I'm just gutted I sold mine. I sold it for triple the price I purchased it for, to fund some exclusive Blu Rays at the time. I may have to pick it up again!

This is getting a Blu-ray release in Germany in August but don’t know yet if it’s the uncut version.

Runtime on amazon.de is 100mins indicating the International Cut rather than the NZ cut.

The US disc is the only way to go. Uncut NZ theatrical version.

US R-rated version according to bluray-disc.de. So the worst one out of the three.

I actually prefer the French film Don't Deliver Us From Evil (1971) over this Peter Jackson film & wish someone would release it on BD.

Now that Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit are out in 4K, hopefully Peter Jackson will pay some attention to his earlier films. He previously expressed an interest in overseeing the restorations personally but hasn't got round to it yet. I really want this and Meet The Feebles.

Does anyone know anything about the Spain release of this movie and how it stacks up to the rest of the releases? I just recently decided that I want this movie (I've never seen it) and that's looking like just about the best option..
