The big expense comes from the location. It takes a lot of paperwork to secure a location for specific amount of time. Since someone was hurt and a criminal negligence investigation had to take place, filming gets halted and you lose the time for which you reserved the location. On top of that, if you do manage to eventually separate more time for the same locationn (which involves drafting brand new contracts), you also have to figure out how to get the actors back (as they often move on to the next project before the current one has even wrapped).

It's way too many balls to juggle so the next best solution is to licence footage from other productions in order to complete the sequence (like how G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra used footage from Black Hawk Down to complete Duke's flashback sequence).

The reason people are making a big deal about this one over other movies is because people tend to pick appart movies they don't like yet gloss over such things when it comes to the movies they do like.
Or, more accurately in this case... Michael Bay haters just gotta keep hatin'!!!

It's not really exclusive to him. Any movie you like, you either ignore the flaws or gloss over them. If you hated the flick, you start ripping it appart (until you forget about it altogether). It's the way people are.

Give it a week and you'll see people will forget about it. Then the BD will be realeased and it'll start all over again and die out once more.

Its funny that some are taking umberage w/ Bay recycling a shot from The Island (which under the circumstances, is understandable......it makes him look like a cheap-skate on a film that was guaranteed to make a huge profit, but understandable nonetheless), but no one's bit¢hing about Nimoy's recycled "Wrath of Khan" line (yeah, yeah it's in "homage", but it hardly made sense given the situation (
[Show spoiler]"The needs of the many", in this case being a couple thousand robots, "outway the needs of the few", which happan to be several billion people. Really???
), and was one of the most groan-inducing moments in recent film). There's plenty to complain about, but at the end of the day, Bay's got my money already, and people that think he's a great filmmaker aren't gonna be swayed by anything I or this youtube fella are gonna say/post. For my part, you can count me as one less blu-ray purchase when the time comes.

Was cool to see the my hometown's art museum in the film though....

Actually that line was well used.
[Show spoiler]The many were the Decepticons (who in Sentinel's mind represented the whole of their race) versus the few rebelious Autobots. Humans didn't fit into his twisting of that line.

Now what is stupid (and this came from how underdeveloped that character and the storyline was) is his incesant whining of how
[Show spoiler]"we were gods once." God's of what? The film never bothers to say because the writer didn't bother beyond giving the character a thin reason to turn evil.
