Jared Harris was dubbed in this so the voice you're hearing is not his.

I posted this in the "last movie" thread two months ago. Even though that thread is all about just posting a picture with a score.

Lost in Space

2/5

First time in almost twenty years. What a messy movie. What weak characters. The father is the blandest of them all.

[Show spoiler]

No, that's not insane, that's freaking stupid.

[Show spoiler]

I'm supposed to believe that girl in the middle is related to these people.

Has some wonderful CG.

[Show spoiler]

The technology is so goofy. Especially those retracting armors and suits. Or this:

[Show spoiler]

This looks like something from a nightclub, not a monitor meant to relay information to the crew.

[Show spoiler]

Kind of weird to brag about being a terrorist. Doesn't this faction think their cause is just?

[Show spoiler]

Matt LeBlanc is being a jackass here. What could this glass be used for that never featured in the scene up to this point? I was never a fan of Friends, but I think he deserved to be in more movies while he was young.

Still enjoyable, though. Sort of... Probably would have been a lot worse without editor Ray Lovejoy (2001, The Shining, Aliens, Batman).

By the way, Dr. Robinson tries to kill his past self. Smart. Also, there are guns on the ship. I have no idea what for.

The whole movie is like a cinematic cutscene from a PC game in the 90's.

People complain about the little alien but the film makers had originally used a puppet that apparently looked even less convincing. The CG was a last minute fix. Rushed work on a fully CG creature in 1998, no wonder it looks the way it does.

This movie has some amazing fx work in it but like all big movies, there are a lot of iffy shots.

Watched the Blu-ray recently. Have always been a fan of it since the cinema back in 1998 and would of liked to have seen where the franchise was going (writer even hints where it was going in the commentary during the last seen as it was setting up the sequel).

Enjoyable sci-fi romp that really starts with a bang for maintains the excitement for the first hour but really slams the breaks on for the second half of the film until the spectacular finale. Only thing that hasn't aged too well (despite the CGI) was Major West thirst for Judy. That was downright creepy considering this was suppose to be a family film.

But the puppet would have at least looked like it was a tangible thing, they could have plonked Kermit the Frog into the film and whilst it would be Kermit the Frog in an effects laden sci-fi picture, it would have been real.

I definitely would have preferred Kermit the Frog over what they gave us.

would of preferred if they kept the Adult Blarp in to be honest even if it was only for the third act.

Never seen this before, is it in the deleted scenes or just a production still? Is there actual footage of the adult blarp?

yeah it's all in the deleted scenes.

full size animatronic that was used for it. basically it was a future version of Blarp that they rescued form the planet

i like this film too my only complain is Gary Oldman this is the only movie of his that i've seen and i love Gary Oldman where i just think he's awful in this & it's the only time i've ever said that. he is the one that hurts the film the most for me he hams up his performance too much. had he played it more straight i wouldn't be saying this

Loved the new Jupiter 2.....all scenes with it were pretty cool, especially the crash.
The tech it used seemed way beyond everything else though.

Always liked this flick, even with some of the down sides....and yes, Major Wests' constant boner was annoying.
But....one of the best time travel stories out there.

It's a masterpiece vs the Netflix show.

Dr Smith is always the linchpin of a LiS series and while this was outside of Gary Oldman's wheelhouse, perhaps a bit too far, his adaptation at least wasn't an evil-for-evil's-sake one-note villain. It's still surprising to me that the deepest and most nuanced take on the character was from the original.

Netflix show might have edged this film out if it had done Dr Smith well, or had just skipped the character. Heresy, I know, but far less so than what Netflix did.

I can imagine the original script might have been decent but really I think it ended up as a bit of a nadir for the bad CGI 90's blockbuster.

I agree. I enjoyed this on VHS as a youngling and recently revisited it on blu ray. It’s silly but entertaining.
