I am pretty sure they are using the same master for the UK release, received my copies of The Naked Gun and Airplane through on Wednesday and their audio and subtitle spec match the US release and even have PG-13 warnings before the films so I would be very surprised if PT&A wasn't also identical to the US BB release.

Right, I've had a brief scan through - the opening title and first scene made me worried that the might be noise reduction going on as it looks remarkably 'clean', and skipping through chapters it does seem pretty much grain free (or at least the grain is barely noticeable or subtly clumpy). I'm sure others will have a better view and I've only had time for a really quick look, but it does seem a little 'smooth' with not much detail on faces etc. It is over twenty years old so maybe it's the best that could be done without a full restoration etc. Having said that there's some surprising detail that would demolish an SD version such as in location shots etc but I'm not convinced there wasn't some edge enhancement in trees, telegraph poles etc - again it could be the print.
Having said all that I'm not an expert so take the above with a pinch of salt. Pic looks like bitrate hovers between 35-40 Mbps. Sound - English 5.1 DTS-HD Master / Spanish mono / Portuguese mono Subs - English / French / Spanish / Portuguese Extras - 'Getting there is half the fun' (16m), two featurettes on John Hughes (HD, 27m / 26m), 'John Hughes for adults' (4m), a tribute to John Candy (3m) and a deleted scene (HD). |

BestBuy US has lenticular slip of this -but I have the DVD version of that so I ain't bothered.
These transfers are always going to be meh I'm afraid. Blu-ray is a great technology for selling -essentially- upscaled old DVDs. There's money in reissuing back catalogue. People had better get used to it or stick with DVD. We've has 10s of very mediocre releases lately and there's lots to come. No investment I'm afraid. These companies don't have much cash so they will lavish it where they can (parties, management bonuses etc). Prices will come down too of course (they'd better or they will sell nothing). For me I'll simply pay what I think it's worth. And wait. |

I'm not having a pop at the guys that have posted the following two comments but as long as customers they keep saying "suppose for 80's comedy it's Ok" and "I guess its an 1980s comedy so I'm not particularly that fussed" they will continue this practice and keep giving us awful transfers. New masters and new restorations or they don't get my money, I'll be sticking with my DVD which will probably look better when upscaled through my Blu-ray player. |

The 2.5 rating for PQ doesn't do the disc justice imo. It looks pretty good and I also have read other reviews which rated the PQ higher. PT&A is my 2nd favorite movie of all time and I've seen it very very very much... had it on VHS, DVD and DVD-SE and it never looked that good like on the BR. I am totally satisfied!
