did konami ever give out a reason for the new VO's? It would seem a waste of time and money to do it for no reason

Basically it's a battle between Guy Cihi (original James) and Konami.

Cihi says Konami isn't paying for the use of his voice/mocap. Konami argues he's being greedy and asking for money on rights that don't exist.

EDIT: Mr. Guy just made an open letter claiming he wants to waive all rights to his work as James. He would rather give up all legal mumbo jumbo and just let us fans have the original voices! What a guy. It's literally in Konami's hands now if they wanted to keep the original VAs.

Please give us the original voice of James at least. He did a good job. You could feel the emotion, confusion, etc. It could just be my nostalgia, but i wish it was all the original voices.

EDIT--just read all of the legal stuff. Had no idea about the fighting and Team Silent stuff. I'll pass on this.

Wow! I am VERY LATE to the party, and I just now realized SH2 and SH3 are to be re-released on the PS3! This Feb is going to be very busy time! Yay!

I still say it's dumb to not include Silent Hill 4. It's not that bad. Plus, having three games instead of two makes it more worth it.

The release date has yet again been changed?!

6th March (today) was supposed to be the release date for this one, and I only knew about it was delayed to 20th March when I made it to the game store after work today! This is like the third delay I know of, and I am not very happy about it!

So I was hyped for this. The Voice-Acting issue left some disappointment, but I got over it. The higher-price was a bit disappointing, but I got over it.

Now though, they went and seemed to "pretty up" the game. Look at this video:

Specifically the Silent Hill 3 parts in the 2nd half.. the orange/red look, the "dirty" and everything like that have been changed to a "normal, clean" look. That, combined with the voice actor change and the $40 pricetag are just too much. Would've loved to get it, but this is kind of ridiculous.

I hate it how they've stretched the FMV sequences from SH2...

I agreed with you there on SH3... the "new" look actually doesn't look that good to me at all. What happened to the rich colors, dark atmosphere? Based on those two clips it looks like everything is going to look kind of "washed out"... maybe that's their idea of a lonely town in the middle of nowhere?

Off topic. I beat SH: Homecoming in mid-Nov, 2008 and never replayed it once until 2 nights ago... and now I remember why I put it down and never touched it again. Man, that game was boring as hell! Even for a huge SH fan like myself, I couldn't stand it after 2 hours...

Kind of looks like they turned the noise effect off in the comparison video, but only when the HD version plays (but I'm probably just seeing pixels in the original). But if it is off, hopefully it's not off permanently, as I really like the glowy snowy look of the original games. But yeah, it does look incredibly dull and washed out compared to the original, SH3 especially. I have my fingers crossed that it was recorded in a way that just makes it look like that, and that the final game looks more like the original, but in HD, of course.

Or, at least, that the game has some options that can be tinkered with.

Acording to the review above, when you start silent hill 2, you choose whether you want new or original voices Hopefully this will cheer some of you up

Thank you. Unfortunately nothing will cheer me up until the game is not falsely advertised anymore. Including sequels and not the original does NOT make a 'collection'.

Whilst it would be great, including Silent Hill 1 would require an actual remake of the game, something far more time consuming and costly than remastering the PS2 titles.

Understood. Then how about this...

It's also unfortunate that Silent Hill 4: The Room, released around the same time and on the same platforms as the previous two, escaped inclusion in this release.

Because of things like that is why I choose to boycott certain things, I take it personally or as an insult.
