I tried to find an even mix between quantity and quality. I think quality won in the end.

Christopher Nolan made only seven films, I rate 5 of them very very highly, so he made it toward the top of my list.

I probably only rate a few of Stanley Kubrick's movies highly, but I like them all in general, so I put him high on my list too. All of his films are sophisticated.

I enjoy all work by people like Michael Bay, Tim Burton, etc, but I shove them in the middle somewhere.

And so on.

I went with directors who have a good body of work. I cant really choose directors that only have 2 films under their belt. There are some directors I'm sure would make my list but unfortunatley I havent seen enough of their films to put them on my list (like Alfred Hitchcock). One of my favorite films is City of God, but because I havent seen any of the directors other films I didnt put him on my list. There are some that I even ranked higher only because they have a larger body of work and are consistent rather than just have a couple of films. Which is why PT Anderson isnt higher in the list. I think in a couple years PT Anderson would be my #1.

Since this is a favorite list, I was okay with sticking certain directors who have made 2 or 3 films that I love over a director that's made 4 or 5 films that I merely liked. Danny Boyle is number one on my list, but I certainly would never rank him number one on a greatest of all time list.

i took different things into consideration like overall quality of their body of work, if they made one of my favorite films, or if they just exhibit talent as a director.

So it looks like we have 33 lists so far. I changed the deadline from October 1st to September 18th, to me 6 weeks seemed like too long for a list like this. Hopefully that's okay with everyone.

Yeah, my list is no definite either. But it comes to a point where you just got to let it be :P
I listed mine as favorites and my overall personal appreciation for their work. I'm an aspiring animator, so most on my list come from Animation background, even though for quite a few their amount of directorial work is rather short listed.
