Ha! Are Alliance that desperate for money they're releasing on a defunct format...?

Hey all! I think this is one of my first posts ever on blu-ray.com and I just picked up this set today at Best Buy here in Vancouver! The location I went to had about 5 of the blu-ray sets, and 5 DVD sets. Blu-ray was $49.99 and DVD is $39.99. Ive been following this thread for quite sometime, and since nobody has really answered anything, I thought I would be the one to do so. I had picked up the Trilogy set from Alliance last year, not knowing the difference between 1080i and 1080p at the time. I was also sad to discover that that set was bare-bones as you call it. (I'm still learning! :P) So I just got home and put in the new set of blu-rays to check it out. The new set are the discs Miramax has released previously in the states. So the extras from those discs are included. The 2 documentaries (which I haven't seen yet) are also included! So all together there are 5 discs. I stood at best buy thinking 'Should I buy this without knowing the answers to anything.. since I have the trilogy set already?' but I guess I'm pretty happy since I do enjoy extras, deleted scenes, etc.. AND the Scream series is my FAVORITE horror series ever! I also LOVED the 4th I'm not too picky when it comes to entertainment. The LARGE box everything came in is kind of pretty. It obviously doesn't fit on my DVD/Blu-Ray shelves.... in the store they were stacked on the ground, but all the boxes were in great/perfect condition. The back of the large box was covered with an information sheet that comes off as soon as you unwrap the plastic, and there's some nice art on the back of the physical large box. The 5 discs themselves come in 1 nice hard-plastic package with hard plastic pages that turn. I've taken some pics with my iphone. ENJOY!

BACK of the LARGE BOX

Comparison of previously released Canadian Bare-bones set (left) and NEW 5-Disc Set (right)

And it says Region 1 on the back of the hard 5-disc case. HOPE I HELPED! If you have any questions, feel free. My name is Michael.

The sad thing is if you go to the buy now page they take the mistake beyond a simple typo and even have the HD DVD logo

Had done a comparison screen of the Aussie Blu-Ray vs Canadian Scream Trilogy so decided to toss in the Complete Collection disc and quickly get the same screen to compare (Well same scene.... the shots are not 100% identical). Still have to give a very slight edge to the Aussie release in terms of PQ but pretty close and this is so much better than the first Canadian release. But this is the set to own overall since obviously the Aussie release was just the first film and was also barebones. So a close transfer + extras + the other three movies + the documentaries + the mask (As much as the fumes might make you pass out) = this being the no brainer set to own Well Australia does have Scream 2 & 3 now too plus a complete collection out next week so maybe that will be the one to own but happy with this set and can stop double dipping on these...... until the uncut Scream Blu-Ray

Have not compared Scream 2 or 3.

[Show spoiler]Aussie Scream Blu-Ray

Canadian Complete Scream Collection - Scream Blu-Ray

Canadian Scream Trilogy - Scream Blu-Ray

And in wanting 1080p and extras I totally missed the best part of this set. Not having to deal with that stupid casing the original trilogy had

---------------------------

Also tested the region coding using PowerDVD and it won't play with that set to Region B or C so it is Region A locked.

Thanks for checking Hayabusa. Us folks here in UK have got royally done over with the Scream Blu Rays. No documentaries and a terrible scream 4 blu ray. Guess I will have to get a region free player eventually as I can't see the documentaries being released in the UK.

It DOES have the special features! I just popped the Scream 4 disc in, and it has the special features. I've only checked that disc, though.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the pics Michael I like that the Blu-ray case is black, just an interesting change!

If you get a chance could you please take a picture of the front of the box? I know it'll look like the artwork supplied online but it's better to judge from a real picture. Thanks!

I posted more pictures of it in the recent haul thread of all the packaging (Other than the Frissons side of the box) so might as well post them in here too and save him the trouble of taking more pics. Plus if he took the mask out it might be a pain in the ass getting it to look right again but that could just be my incompetence and repackaging stuff talking

[Show spoiler]

Oh man, that's awesome! The hands make it look cool, glad they did away with listing the films at the bottom of the front of the box too.

Cheers for the pics, super appreciated!

[Show spoiler]Oh and I haven't opened my Swedish mask edition yet, I'd imagine I couldn't get it sitting right again either

Where exactly in the big main box is the comparitively smaller black colored hard plastic case that houses the discs?

It's at the back of the box behind the mask. You have to open up the main box from the bottom to retrieve the DVD case. And because of that, the plastic laminate at the bottom of the back of the DVD case is pushed up. I have the case out lying on my desk trying to flatten out the plastic.* Frankly, there is a lot of packaging and I'm not sure if I should keep it!

*If you look at Hayabusa85's second-to-last picture, you'll see what I mean.

What's funny about this to me is that Alliance never issued any HD DVDs during its run. They waited until the war was won until they started putting their logo on packaging. They distributed US releases (Pan's Labyrinth for example), & the Universal wing just added French text to many releases.

Yeah bottom right side to be specific in that pic if people. My friend picked it up too and his whole bottom ended up like that so guess I was lucky only getting the one corner folded up.

For anyone interested, FutureShop.ca has The Complete Scream Collection Blu-Ray set up for $19.99.

It has all 5 discs and the 5th disc has the two documentaries (I just got my copy this morning and checked it out because I couldn't find any info online). It does not come with the Ghost Face mask or big box. I think those are the only differences (besides the alternate packaging).

I JUST found pictures of it in the Slipcover thread by tridon:
