iv'e got a 360/ps3 i enjoy the 360 for its HD DVD add on and you can get alot of games for it on the cheap now , and i enjoy the ps3 for its sweet sweet blu rayness and guitar hero 3.

PS/3 v. Xbox 360 is a superficial issue except from the point of view of how some use it as as proxy battle for Blu-ray v. HD DVD.

Xbox 360 is barely part of the HD DVD battle, except how the Xbox 360 add-on's existence has added to the "whatever-HD-DVD-does-must-be-enough" thinking and how that has made HD DVD even DUDier than it would have been.

For example: The original Xbox 360 had no HDMI and still has no protected HD audio capability ... THEREFORE it was argued like crazy that HDMI and HD audio aren't important. Not just for XBox 360, but for HDM in general!

It's a specific example of the general Microsoft/HD DVD zealot strategy. If Blu-ray can do something HD DVD can't, argue whatever it is, is unimportant. If HD DVD can do something Blu-ray can't, argue whatever it is, is absolutely vital to the acceptance of HD discs.

So, we see high bandwidth, capacity, and HD audio as unimportant. But, DD+ at 1.5Mbps (which, BTW, is possible with BD with effort if someone really wanted to forego a much better TrueHD, or LPCM) or PiP is absolutely vital.

Why did you buy it? Was it worth it?

I couldnt agree more. The whole 50/51 GB disc debacle really set me off. For months and months and months it was "50 gigs it too much! Theyll never use it all! They are lying about it and no discs actually use it! No one will ever need that much!" And then the second 51 GB discs are announced it "Hey, Bluray sucks! We have larger storage capacity! 1 Whole gig means so much! War over!"


It saddens me though, on other forums, a couple people who I know that are staunch Sony haters, and "Sony ruined a great thing" and "Sony screwed the fans" type people, recently cracked with "I am going to (or have) bought the HD addon for my Xbox and I bought Batman and Heroes! This is so great!" Its these uninformed masses and Sony-haters that can somehow simply ignore technical specs and sales data. It's these people that are prolonging this thing, and it drives me crazy.

They say they dont care who wins, and the PS3 has nothing to do with it, but you know they are only trying to 'give it to' Sony for 'loosing their trust'.

I had a point with this somewhere, but it just angers me so much I dont even want to type anymore.

I would have enjoyed the Xbox360 alot more if I didn't get the "RED RING OF DEATH" (insert cheese God voice and corny music). I think I had more fun exchanging the darn thing then I did playing it. Maybe that Xbox360 would be better if it didn't have the M$ logo on it. M$ is a curse or a timebomb of sorts I won't say any other products that crash just as much **caugh vista, xp caught**. Luckly I have shed my M$ problem and went to mac, and WIIIIIIII.

I had only heard abou tthe RRoD online, but a couple months ago, my cousin lost his X360 to one, and then a couple weeks ago a guy I work with's son lost one to the RRoD. I keep fearing that I am next in line! We are cursed! :P

I've had a 360 since it came out. It's my almost exclusive game console, as I still have yet to find any worthwhile PS3 games, even though I have Spiderman 3 and Ninja Gaiden. I had one 360 get the RROD, but I have the 2 yr replacement from Best Buy, so I just went in and swapped it out. Then I had another "problem" with the second one so I could upgrade to the Elite. The second one I had no issue with, and the Elite I haven't seen problems with either. Not really too concerned about it, if it breaks I go in and get a new one. I've toyed with getting the HD-DVD add-on, but that was when there was more of a question about who was going to come out on top. If I find one dirt cheap or something I may pick it up still, but doubtful.
