I'm liking this steel. Does the actual film compare to Cloverfield? Better, worse? I missed it in theater .

This'll be a blind buy for me as I missed it on the big screen. As an 80s kid, I grew up with Spielberg's classics & I like JJ's stuff too.

Theoretically this is my ideal movie! That it's getting such a fine looking steel is a bonus.

Another £19.99 priced SteelBook?

I thought prices of Blu-ray's were meant to come down in the future, not go up?

Exactly. They had such a good run with Disney steelbooks at £14.99 and others at £17.99.

I made my concern known in the Captain America thread and this has now confirmed my worries. Trouble is it's exclusive along with Captain America. So they can charge what they like, but when they have other exclusives for £14.99 and £17.99 it's a bit of a rip off!

And starting November we get stuck with a lower £15 cap on imports. This is just a slap in the face.

To be honest, I'm happy to pay £20 for a new release, site-exclusive steel. I'd rather pay £20 now than hold off, it goes out of stock & is then only available on eBay for £50.

But that's just me.

it's still much better price than what you'd pay for a Blu-ray steelbook if you lived in Hungary! you'd pay 21-22 GBP for a normal Blu-ray release in plastic case and 32-33 GBP for a Blu-ray steelbook!!!

by the way, you read about the reasons of why do they sell new steelbooks for 19.99 GBP, here:
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/f4561352-555...ml&_i_referer=

but it's everywhere on the internet I guess we must accept this....

I was OK with steelbooks before as they were only £2-3 more than the regular some are even the same price. But to start charging £5 more for no good reasson just pisses me off.

If there was a good reasson, or even any reasson at all as to why they are increasing the price then I would be less pissed off.

I've already had people telling me to shut up and that it's only £2 more than £17.99, but when you look at it in purchases over a year your loosing out on 100s of pounds that you could have used towards things like bills and living costs.

But hey, thats just me, maybe I need to get a better job or stop paying my bills

Yeh, I've seen that but they still have plenty of releases that they havent raised the price on. The standard editions haven't raised to £17.99 so why have they put a higher premium on steelbooks?

I have a feeling it might be Paramount influencing the price having seen how popular they are - as you say, Disney ones go for £14.99 (like Cars 2) and that's exclusive to HMV as well so I think it's studio rather than store mandated. They can charge HMV more for the stock (or for the exclusivity) knowing that there are enough collectors for HMV to accept it and still sell them.
