The sales nunbers are important, and yes the most important thing is the enjoyment of movies. However, we must fully support the Blu-ray format to be able to enjoy the best possible movie theater experience from our homes. I will surely buy a couple of extra titles on the 16th, not only to support Blu-ray, but because I will enjoy the product.

My only interest in Transformers is doing my part to make sure that Blu stays on top the week it ships. I buy between 2 and 4 titles a week and I'm putting a few off from the 2nd and the 9th to make sure I have 4 that I actually want on the 16th.

I'd have bought the movie to support Paramount/Dreamworks and Blu if I'd been given the option but Viacom took their cash up front. My hopes are that Blu-ray wins this mess and then I can be picky about what DVD movies I currently own from Paramount that I replace in 17 months. If they put out crap encodes with crap audio, I'll suffer me some upscaled.

Right now Paramount has no competition. They get paid for not producing for the consumer and the stuff they do release gets gobbled up by people trying to keep a struggling format alive.

I will be purchasing numerous bd's on Oct. 16th b/c I hate that paramount didn't honor the pre-orders of their movies that were made prior to the switch. I'm sure that they could have still gotten their pay-off and insisted on making good on orders already placed.
Luckily, I bought the only 2 paramount blu-rays that I wanted before the exclusivity fiasco happened. Didn't want Transformers, or Shrek, but I was definitely looking forward to Braveheart on blu.

Maybe, (I haven't seen either one but I tend to enjoy movies like that), but sales of Transformers in particular are interesting to me because I want to see Blu when the full year and many people suggest Transformers on HD DUD will sell so amazingly well that HD DUD will win a week.

Of course, that's the only chance, and only for that week most likely, so I'm just interested to see how it plays out.

To everyone here that is planning on buying more Blu titles on the 16th this month than normal, good job!
Transformers may not be a great movie in the eyes of individuals here, but is it the one title (along with Shrek) that Paramount has a chance at taking week 42 away from Blu-ray. It can be argued that it’s a format battle and not serious, but I don’t want to give Paramount and HD DVD the one week 150 million bought them.
I believe Paramount will also be comparing the sales data to previous single format releases to estimate how many new adopters were gained. When you think of people going neutral or new adopters just for this title it has the possibility prolonging this battle that much longer.

This was part of HD-DUD's master plan with PM and DW that BD supporters will flop here and sales will sky rocket for the Red Side.

It's Warner that I'm more worried about right here, because they will be watching the most (as far as new adopters). Universal will be watching, but we can't completely count on them doing anything but staying put at the moment. (EDIT: And for that matter, every other company on both sides will be watching between now and the end of the year) However, PM will be pointing out ANY new data from this if it is in favor of HD-DUD and broadcast it all over the internet.

Prince,

Come on. Are you saying if HD DVD wins one week out of 52 that will make the studios sit up and notice HD DVD? I don't buy that at all.

Count me in for 4 blu movies on the 16th.

Perfect point!!

If one does not understand what it means to take away from HDDVD the week of October 16th/Week 42 then one does not understand the war!!

Looking at how Warner-France are up to their usual game again (see thread started on this site) proposing 12 HDDVD-only titles for 2008...you better believe the threat is real. Either the Blu community makes a statement or we simply accept a defeat.

I am far from using the fan talk, this TRULY is a week with great repercussions for both formats.

it seems to me that although transformer is ahead, their overall position is not very good. transformer rises, but the other went down

Exactly, it;s called "We don't have as many choices in decent movies to buy as the Blu-Ray folks."
