The little peices of curved plastic at the top and bottom of the spine?

I have several cases with those at least partially broken off (a couple have completely fallen off)

It's kind of a design flaw, because they aren't held on that well, something to do with the injection molding I suppose. You'd think they would have enhanced the design the cases just slightly since 2006 to keep these things from breaking off.

I prefer the Vortex cases, but those have the security flaps that you have to fold in and whatnot

The only scratched Blu-ray I have in my collection is Hellboy, which I bought pre-owned. I also bought pre-owned copies of Iron Man 2 and The Polar Express combi packs, both of which have perfect condition Blu-ray discs but scratched to shit DVDs. As you can see, I did make some exceptions by buying some used Blu-ray discs, but now I tend to always buy brand new. I can't quite understand how some people can treat their discs the way they do. I have friends who don't store their DVDs or games in any boxes, or any specific place in their house. They just take them out, use them, and then once they're finished, just throw them anywhere, scattering their house with them! Seriously, why? You take something out of the box, you use it, then you put it back in the box when it's finished. How hard is that? Needless to say I never lend any of my discs out to these people.

The Blu-rays rented from Netflix, are expected to be in pretty bad condition, since they're being shipped out all over the world, to every Tom, Dick, and Harry, and child. It'll be a miracle if their Blu-rays play at all, considering the circumstances. I'll be skeptical about putting them inside my player!

What kind of numchuck are you? I've rented bluray's from Netflix a couple years now and rarely do I ever see a scratch on a bluray they send me. I just received "The Taking of Pelham 123" and upon inspecting the disc I find.... nothing. No scratches, no fingermarks even. Where did you come up with your nonsense?

Well, I kind of assumed that everyone on this forum takes the "utmost care of their discs"

That certainly hasn't prevented scratches in my case some things are just beyond your control, no matter how careful you are

I haven't had the Star Wars or Alien Anthology digibooks scratch any discs. I think their potential to harm discs was greatly exaggerated.

Agreed, after reading this thread I went and inspected my star wars and Alien blu ray sets, I've got scratches on 4 OF THE STAR WARS DISCS! And 3 of the alien discs, on the Alien discs its nothing major just small "scratches" that look more like dots, its odd, anyone seen these types of scratches/dots yet?

The Star wars sets actually looks like real scratches and I am taking it back to Best Buy tomorrow morning seeing as how I bought it yesterday.

The only BD I own that has scratches is "I, Robot." It has a couple of small scratches on it and it was like that since the day I bought it. Must've been scratched at the factory. But it never had any problem playing on any of the players I played it on, so I didn't make a big thing about it.

I admit I was a bit foolish when it came to putting my dvds back in the cases..but I treat blu rays like priceless works of art..I take them out of the player every time and put them in the case delicately, especially considering my collection is so small at this point. I've noticed it takes a lot to make a blu scratch anyways..smudging is easier so I make sure to let me fingers touch anything but the edges.

You're not cool unless you have one scratched blu-ray.

I must just order the correct titles lol

Seriously though, I don't stick dirty discs into my drives so I always check them before inserting and haven't ever seen one with significant scratching or grease/fingerprints etc.

Of all my collection, the only scratch that i have is Transformers Revenge of the Fallen WM Exclusive. It was not my fault though. My lil brother (3 y-old) opened the case and play it while im away for work. I got home and found the disc laying in the floor. I immediately pick it up and found a huge scratch. Worst is the disc keep skipping. I was so mad, I yelled and the next day I ran to Walmart and get another copy.

Not a single scratch that I'm aware of. Then again, I haven't gone through and closely inspected every single one of my blu-ray discs lately...

I recently had a small scratch on one of the discs from the Star Wars collection. As a sidenote another disc in this set was partially glued to one of those slot openings.

Not true. All of the scratches I've seen (on both blu-ray and DVD) were there straight out of the shrink wrap. The discs were scratched at the plant either before or after pressing.

It doesn't matter how careful I am when the damage is done even before I click "buy now" on a website!

Don't forget, a lot of these discs are made in places like Mexico. Handled by machines (and people?) that are far less careful than we are!

Scratches on the Alien and Star Wars sets are completely unsurprising due to the crappy packaging.

Buy the superior UK editions!

I own 150+ movies on Blu-ray (and many more discs than that since many have bonus discs on BD or are part of a series etc.) and I've owned over 100 PS3 games since the dawn of the system, and I have never seen a scratch on a single one of them.

I have never owned a single defective Blu-ray.
