Can these replacement hubs be used inside of a standard Blu-Ray case? If not, does anyone know of some that will?

Only if the disc hubs are hollow in the middle and fit over the broken one, otherwise you would need a flat surface to adhere it to. Unless it is a special kind of case that is hard to replace, perhaps you should buy a few cases that you frequently use most often in bulk so you will at least have some spares.

I've done the two-disc hack for some of my steelbooks - I used clear eco cases, and just cut out the middle hub (along with the arms) so they look as clean as possible.

But what I'm wondering is if it's possible to somehow attach TWO hubs on a single side in a staggered configuration. Obviously, one would need to be higher than the other to accommodate two discs. Should be easy enough to add height by using a clear plastic washer; the SB would just need to be thick enough to allow it to close without the hubs and discs on either side coming into contact.

The ideal solution is if the inner jacket of steelbooks could be easily removed, and replacements purchased - they could be made to hold 4 discs in a dual-staggered arrangement on each side.

I tried the adhesive disc hubs, and they kept falling out. I would literally be sitting in my living room watching TV and hear a small *clink* as a disc and sticky hub fell.

I was able to buy a bunch of single-disc empty steelbooks recently and performed a multi-surgery last week. I sell off 3D discs and 4K discs, so I had a lot of dual disc cases that were holding one disc or triple disc trays that were holding two discs. I was able to pop off the steelbook plates and use a hair dryer on the spines to remove them and change them all up. Now almost all of my steelbook trays match the amount of discs that I have for each.

I'm not talking about replacing a broken hub, but adding one to a case with no hub on the inside of the front panel. Vortex quit making their 15mm 4-disc cases, so I thought of using these hubs to modify the 3-disc versions. I'd probably be using clear craft glue, to make them stick permanently.

I had success with actually swapping out the outer covers, and attaching them to a different case. I found some cheap 3 disc steelbooks and disassembled them. Then I attached the covers of the single disc sets to the 3 disc case. I put the spine in place using clear double sided sticky tape.

I think they came out great!

I have a question: if I buy a steelbook with 2 holders to replace the one I want that has one, are this plastic insides generic and same size for all region steelbooks?

thanks in advance!

Pretty much.
I've noticed that some steelbook panels are harder to get off than others though.
And if you end up bending the clipped in ends, they can be a pain to get back into their proper shape.

Does anyone know of any cheap 4-disc Steelbooks? the kind with the "flap" in the middle so each disc gets it's own hub?

Flash s3 and Supergirl s2 steels are cheap ($12.99/each) that hold 4 discs.

The Steve Austin 4 movie set has always been the go to for a 4 disc inside.

Thanks for the replies! Both great options.

I'll have to keep that Steve Austin set in mind for future reference, as that will probably be easier to grab at a low price going forward.

After posting, I did a search on Zavvi, and found that the 3D release of one of the Hobbit movies is a 4 disc set. I checked some youtube reviews and it has this kind of case layout.

They had it for £9.99, and as part of a sale where you get 3 for £20. I ordered 6 copies, and it came out to a little under $60 in US dollars. So not too bad.

So here's something that I wanted to share on this topic for adding one extra disc hub to a 1-disc or 2-disc steelbook case.

I've attempted to describe this in some other threads previously, but I don't know if the explanation made sense just in writing, so I took some pictures since I was in the process of doing this recently to add the 4K disc of Thor Ragnarok to my Blufans Steelbook.

Bascially you just take a slim CD jewel case, remove the lid, and position the part with the hub so that the hinge tabs are pointing up.

Then, as seen in the pics, you slide it into the lower document clip and get it all lined up on that side.

It may take a little bit of "finagling," but once you get it in place, the case should close up just fine. And I find that these hold the disc much better than those stick-on hubs. It is also very easy to remove and not permanent.

There is one catch, but not one that is too big of an issue with newer Steelbooks like the one shown above.

The documents tabs have to be spaced out like in the Thor example above.

I recently ran into a problem in this regard with an empty Incredible Hulk Steelbook that I bought on ebay that came out some years ago.

It is a one disc case, and I wanted to put both the regular Blu-Ray and 4K discs of the movie in it. The document clips are closer together than in the above Thor example. As a result, rather than sitting below and not really touching the upper clip, the jewel case kind of sits on top of it. I am actually able to close the case and everything - probably because it is just a one disc case to begin with (if it was a 2-disc case with the clips in this alignment, I doubt that I'd be able to get it to close with this jewel case bottom in it), so that's at least good for now.

Still, the look of it is driving me nuts. Since I place to do some swapping of the inner trays and convert some other cases to 4-disc cases after I receive those Hobbit sets, I'll probably swap in a 2-disc case's insides (with proper clips as well) into this. The spine of this Steelbooks is a little misaligned anyway, so it would be a good opportunity to fix that.

I just got a hundred pack of stick-on hubs, and used them for the bonus discs in my steels of Speed and The Evil Dead (original). Even if they fall off eventually, hey, I have 98 replacements.

I had no idea stick-on hubs existed. Good info, because I've been putting extra discs in paper sleeves. Unless I find extra multidisc cases.

If those work out for you, that's cool.

I honestly don't care for them. In my experience, even if the hub stays in place, they don't hold the discs as well as most other options. Discs on those hubs tend to fall off and become loose. To avoid this, almost any time I would handle a Blu-Ray case that I used on in, even if I was accessing another disc in the case in one of the actual case hubs, I would have to make it a point to push down on the other disc on the stick on hub, otherwise the next time I pick it up, the disc may fall loose.

wouldn't a dab of super glue hold the hub in place and keep it from loosening up?... it would be a more permanent solution but I don't see why it wouldn't work... I usually just put extra discs in a paper sleeve and slide the edges of the sleeve under the tabs inside the steelbook and that's enough to hold it in place, I have a bunch of steelbooks I have done that with... not as fancy but it works

I found an even better solution to adding an extra hub to a 1 or 2 disc case than my earlier Jewel case example, and it even works with that Incredible Hulk steelbook with the differently located clips.

I was at Best Buy this morning, and grabbed a pack of these Dynex Clear Slim CD/DVD cases. They aren't jewel cases, but more the comparatively softer (and less prone to cracking) polycases. The front and back are all one piece, but the bent area that creates the "hinge" is very easy to tear, so you can just tear the cover part off, or use scissors if you want.

Then I just place the side with the disc hub in the case. I put the side where the "hinge" was (which is admittedly a little sharp to the touch after tearing) facing down, at the bottom of the inside of the steelbook case, and slide it under the lower clip, similar to by Jewel case example above.

It has a slightly smaller "footprint" than the slim jewel case, so even in that Incredible Hulk Steelbook, it fits fine, and it requires less "finagling" than the jewel case does. And the hub holds the disc very well. In terms of making a 1 disc case into a 2 disc case, or a 2-disc case into a 3-disc case, this might be about the best solution possible short of actually disassembling different Steelbook cases and swapping out the plastic internals.

Dynex slim cases work fine. I've had to cut a few notches to make them fit with the varying document holder (and other notches) configurations found in my Steelbooks, but brilliant idea. Thanks for the tip.

I found those stick on hub totally useless, especially if you live in warmer climates. The adhesive just goes tacky and the sheer weight of the disc causes it to fail. And as one poster stated in the middle of watching a movie you will hear a slight banging sound as your disc and insert fail. And if you’re really unlucky you end up with adhesive on smeared all over the inside of the case.
