Ben-Hur is about the same price I think and LOA specifically lists itself as "Region Free" and I think Amazon UK is doing this because they believe they'll get a lot of orders like they did with Ben-Hur and they're prepared for it this time.
Yeah I reckon you are right, I went for the US Bridge on the River kwai, Dr Zhivago and Taxi Driver because of the more collectible stuff

This one case where I'd opt for the box of swag. I know Sony won't pull any of that extras-on-dvd bull flop that Warner Bros. does.

This is my favorite film. I want the best edition out there.

I just don't like those generic covers. Ok for a film I don't love, like DAS BOOT, but for LAWRENCE it seems...undignified. I will also go for the box o' crap edition, or digibook, or even just a better cover.

Ok, well - if it's not going to be part of the Sony Collection line it might be better. But if it is, it's only going to be a minor tweak to what's up. Look at what they did to Bridge On The River Kwai; then take a look at the US edition.

I think we'll be pleased with the final artwork. This is a HUGE release for Sony and I don't think they'll screw it up. The project is being handled by Grover Crisp and he knows what he is doing (He worked on Taxi Driver, too).

We've been waiting too long. There better not be any screw-ups.

Robert Harris has said there's no reason for concern at all.

Good thing some of us got our preorders in while we could. Got an email from Amazon UK basically saying they don't know when they'll get it; it's no longer available for preorder there. Either (a) Sony UK jumped the gun and it's still not ready yet, or (b) Sony didn't want it announced in the UK till it gets a U.S. release date...

Sony's been *wanting* to put LoA out for years; they've had it on in-store BD promo displays almost since the dawn of the format, and LoA ought to be the poster child for classics on BD. Especially after reading Grover Crisp's interview with Bill Hunt, LoA proves Sony is the Paul Masson of home video: "We will put out no fine BD before its time."

I cant wait to get this. And I actually really like the standard cover artwork for the Sony releases. It makes for a nice little subsection of my collection.

Default This will be so great!

Really looking forward to June and Lawrence in Blu-Ray! Recently I've been reading about the real T.E. and WWI in general so I think this viewing will be even more interesting in perspective. There's a lot of info online: T. E. Lawrence Studies, T. E. Lawrence Society, and Clio Visualizing History (short video & ton of photos) are good places to look. I think the real T.E. was even more complex than the movie version, but who can complain when O'Toole is getting so much screen time? Can't wait!

wait I thought there was a delay to this release - Amazon.co.uk's link no longer mentions the June date any longer.

At the moment it is unclear if Lawrence of Arabia is still coming in June or not.

If a new release date appears though I shall update the thread.

Very disappointing. I take a look every few days to see if a release date has been set.

Why are they waiting? A lot of cr-p films have been set to Blu but not one of the best films made?????????

It's about time someone got their finger out and released this!!! I can't recall how long ago I first saw the demo disc with Lawrence on it. Too long for sure.
