My current desktop and laptop are both completely infected with adware - and it is very annoying. This is probably due to my kids using them, but I am to the point of having to wipe everything out and start over. I am hoping to not have these issues with the Mac.

I needed a new system to do HD video editing (home videos and stuff), and after researching a lot, it seemed that the Macs were best for this type of work. The priced did seem higher than a PC, though the extra cost will be worth it if the Mac works as well as I hear.

This is what I picked up -

2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
2GB 667 DDR2 FB DIMM ECC-4x512
ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB
500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s drive
500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s drive
16x SuperDrive DL
Airprt Extrm & BT 2.0+EDR
WL Apple Kybd & WL Mgty Ms

APPLE CIN HD DISPLAY 23" FLAT PANEL

Also picked up a Canon HV20 HD Camcorder, Final Cut Express, and Photoshop. Still need to get an external BD burner.

That is one sexy machine. How much did that set you back? $3.5k or so? I did some pricing last night myself. It's kinda spensive to get a MAC, but you know what - it's worth it from what I hear.

After discount it was $3543, plus $900 for the monitor (crap!) - total after tax $4,624.13. Considering I paid $600 for my last PC (including monitor), this was a ton of money.

Hope it is worth it...

Yes, let me know how it goes. I am thinking about getting the tower and not the iMac. That way I can "upgrade" if/when I want to but that is one monster of a machine as it is.

With standard industry markup, it would retail at $349.99

They do this on every product (this is the worst yet though), and people don't learn that you can get products that are just as good without the fashion accessory factor for much less money.

So in summary, you buy Apple products, you already know they're jacking you, so you deserve what you get
Totally agree. Anyone dumb enough to believe Apple invents anything deserves to pay 5x what its worth for it. They didn't invent the MP3 Player, they just gave it a custom name (iPod). You can get those for like $50 from anyone else and it does the exact same thing. Same with iPhone. I bouth my T-Mobile Dash a month before the iPhone and it only cost $159 and does everything the iPhone does, and even some more, but it isn't quite as flashy, interface wise etc...I dueled it out with iPhone friends and their only arguement was, yeah but I paid $600 for my cool phone. :-) Sucks for you.

Yeah, they looked like shit. One of the companies we take care of had one and it was just the bulkiest POS I have ever seen. Dell has a more ingenious one in terms of upgrades/repairs on it. Its an ultra small form factor, stand with monitor. Not an all in one and again not as nice.

This from dell, but I have known about it for a while. Expensive as hell!

Neither of which I am really impressed with. Still windows, still problems. Apple like I have said before has really hit the nail on the head.

That Dell one is actually supposed to be a notebook/desktop combo. It all folds together like a notebook. So I guess you're paying for conveinence.

Wicky, I don't want to go back and forth endless times. We both made excellent points and we both think we won. Sounds good enough.

Read about that. Also see the mother is on her way to probably hiring a lawyer to "resolve" the issue.

Sorry, but if my ipod caught fire, I would want a new ipod and some extras thrown my way. Nothing less and nothing more than that. Shit happens. You can't control everything. I am not gonna go sueing someone because I did not get hurt. If I got hurt or burned and needed surgeries, then they should pay for them now and however long I need them.

People should get ONLY what they need. None of this BS 10million for being a stupid ass crap.

Totally agree. I think people are suing for such absurd amounts because they know the corporations in question will settle...not for the amount being sued for but still for a monetary settlement that still far exceeds the actual damage done. In the end, IMHO, Apple will likely opt to settle rather than a long drawn-out court battle that will cost them in terms of $ and bad publicity.

sux all around
