The only reason why I don't like pre-ordering is because Amazon takes forever to ship it and thus, I receive it over a week after it was released when I could've walked to Best Buy or J&R and got it on release day for the same price.

If it's a movie I really, really like I have no problem pre-ordering it. If it's a movie i'm only mildly interested in, then yeah, i'll wait for the price to drop a little bit.

I'm guessing no prime for you then. Release day delivery is awesome.

As for the OP's question I like to pre-order when the titles go up to pre-order That way alot of the time I get a lower price then release date pricing thanks to Amazon's pre-order price guarantee. For example Blitz was ordered at $13.99 not the initial price when first went up but still lower then the release date price of $19.99 and a savings of $6 on release day. Also World on a Wire and Anatomy of a Murder both pre-orderd during the price mistake when they first went up and have then each sitting at $16.99 while their prices have jumped due to the mistake fix to $27.99 a piece saving me over $20 on the purchase.

This summer I have noticed that blus tend to have a significant drop in price within a month or two of release. I have now decided to hold off on immediate purchases to take advantage of said drop. However, as already mentioned, Disney is a whole other story. With the coupons offered during pre-order, One usually is able to get the "cheaper" deal by NOT waiting. Although the limited editions are a no brainer if I am so inclined to own it...

I don't pre-order anymore unless it's a price mistake that get locked in. I pay between $5-$10 for my blus. $10 is for new releases or Disney animated movies. Everything else is $8 or less

I haven't pre-ordered or made a release week purchase in years for this very reason. I usually look for a target price of $15 or less for a new release and under $10 for catalogue titles. There's no reason to pay full price when they drop so quickly. Not to mention, many around here are like me and have blu's sitting around that haven't been watched yet. No reason to rush out there and buy a movie at full price when by the time I watch it it will be available for much less...and yes, I do watch every title I buy, I just have a little backlog that varies in size. Lately its a little bigger than usual since I've picked up so many at great prices lately.

Where are you purchasing your Disney animated movies for $10? Are they new or used?

That's what I was wondering.

Obviously you can sign up for their club and get about 7 or 8 of them at an average of under $10. I'll probably give that a whirl relatively soon. Other than programs like that, hard to find the main Disney classics under $20. Although as far as this thread topic is concerned, Disney movies are a solid example of something that actually makes sense to pre-order. The pre-orders coupons seem to be pretty good for Disney movies, and their prices pretty much don't drop... ever.

The only time I ever buy titles the week of release are if they have some sort of coupon bringing it down to $15 or under (like most Disney titles). Everything else will eventually sell for $10 or less on Amazon or at Best Buy, so buying them now for $20 or more is a chump move. I had to wait a year until I could get Inception for $7.99, and I'm glad.

So, no, I don't feel paying $14.99-$19.99 for a Blu-ray on release day is a waste of money.

Mark
$9.25 a ticket here + I don't eat popcorn (I can go 2 hours without eating) + $5 medium drink = $14.25

Everyone else pays for their own stuff.

Pawn shops aren't my thing. I don't live in that big of a city, so there's really only a couple of pawn shops in this area and they are basically in the ghetto and that's about it. Can't really frequent them just trying to find an occasional movie deal. Disney club looks like a good option though, I've been meaning to sign up but at the same time there's more titles I want them to add first...I'm just trying to find the right window to sign up.

That's one movie I don't regret preordering because I got the limited edition briefcase lol.

I am the same way. If there is a Criterion or Kino I want I always make sure to get the pre-order price from Amazon locked. Still trying to figure out why Kino's Rapt has not dropped price from $31.99.

I buy on release for multiple reasons, mainly because of coupons, example fright night (2011)3D with preordering you got $5 off aswell which brings the current price down to 24.99 thats a steal for both 3D and a disney movie

Always good to see someone who thinks that they are better than everyone else because they do something differently.
