yeah top 20 doesnt necessarily mean you love all 20, its just ranking the movies youve seen and submitting 1-20.

I've only seen nine films so far this year, so I guess I'll rank those.

1. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
2. Hugo
3. The Tree of Life
4. Melancholia
5. Drive
6. Super 8
7. Unknown
8. Source Code
9. The Adjustment Bureau

I'll probably change the way I'm doing this before the deadline. I really like the movies that are ranked 1-5 on my list, I enjoyed Super 8, and thought that the last three were either mediocre (Unknown, Source Code) or well below average (The Adjustment Bureau). I don't really think that those three films deserve to get the amount of points that they would if I were to keep them there.

So how do you guys think that I should tally a list if someone posts less than 20 films?

I can do it like normal, count their number 1 as 20 points and so on. Or I can do it where I push their list down, so if they only have 5 films listed, their number 1 would be worth 5 points, 2 worth 4 points, and so on.

This, that way people will be more likely to list more films.

I still haven’t watched quite a bit from 2011 that I want to. Some of these I will never watch again, I really don’t think some belong on a top list but I haven’t watched enough 2011 movies. Like Cars 2 and Battle LA just flat out sucked.

Thor
Super 8
The Adjustment Beureau
Crazy Stupid Love
Rio
I am Number 4
Captain America
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallo: Part 2

Not really good enough for a top list but here are some more:

Puss n Boots
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
X-Men First Class (bring back the guy who did #2 please!!!!!)
Fast Five
Source Code
Limitless
Cars 2
Battle LA

Okay, well you're the only one to respond to my question, and since I agree with you, I went ahead and added this as a rule to the first post. If people disagree, we can figure something else out.

yea i would push the list down point wise so like you said this way if they want the films they bothered to list to get the correct points they need to finish their list.

Its not asking what where the only decent movies youve seen but more the top 20 of what youve seen so if youve seen 20 and only 20 then rank them so. No need to go oh well only this film is worthy of being a film.

This is completely stupid.

Stop and think about it. Say I've only seen 5 films, my top film receives the same number of points as your 16th ranked film; effectively one persons opinion carries more weight than another, simply because they've seen more movies. Or because they filled all the rest of their 20 spots with any old crap.

If I could scrape together 20 Hollywood movies I've seen this year, I can guarantee you at least half of them would be awful enough not to deserve the time it takes me to type their name, much less award them any points.

The sensible option would be to simply score the 5 movies 20,19,18,17 and 16.

I fully agree. The top five listed for somebody listing 5 movies should be equal in point value to somebody's top five in a list of 20, top 5 in a list of 100.

Maybe we should just do a top 15 list. Somewhere in the middle of 10 and 20.

Alright, I'll just put it back to how it was then for now. But I still encourage everyone to post as many films as possible.
