It was excellent in the theaters. The 3D for a live action film was extremely well done, and those who love "pop out" won't be disappointed and neither will those who love depth. For me, this is the second best FD movie after the first one. It had plot, suspense and great kills.

Excellent 3D. One of the better 3D films I've seen. As others have mentioned, this was shot natively. There was maybe one or two shots that looked post-converted (even Avatar featured a few shots that were post-converted), but the remainder was absolutely excellent. Special effects were also top-notch. The bridge collapse that starts the film looked sensational, particularly the 3D effects.

Movie on the other hand, was fairly ordinary IMO. If it weren't for the very surprising ending, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much. I honestly hope that, if the franchise gets another entry, that they try to progress the story, rather than repeat the same formula every single time. They did add a plot line that was unique to this entry, but it wasn't explored anywhere near as much as it should have been.

The exclusive Final Destination 5 (3D)- Blu-ray 3D @ BestBuy Tuesday, 12/27/11 has the price lowered today to $24.99 and showing a list price of $26.95. That is very interesting since last week their price on-line for the same movie was $34.99. Higher than the list price.

Thumbs down

I sat down to watch this movie this afternoon having watched number 4, I was hoping for some great 3D, the 1st 15 minutes has plenty of ewws and arrsss as expected and the opening sequence with the glass flying out of the screen looks great, this movie also has a few pop outs here and there but nowhere near the amount that number 4 had, the bridge sequence at the start has some nice action scenes, a bucket falls through a large hole but never really looks clear and seems to blur as it hits the water, the back ground of the landscape as we overlook the bridge also looks a slight blur and is never crystal clear in depth perception as we would expect from a true 3D movie, The bridge as it crashes down into the water does look good but no more than if you watched this on the normal bluray. This movie lacks depth in a big way so I just dont understand how people can say this is has great 3D when there are so many other 3D movies on the market that have alot better 3D than this, it seems these guys blow there whole budget on the opening sequence of the movie leaving little for the remainder of the film.

This films just gets worse and worse with B-rated actors to a Tom Cruise want to be lookalike, it cant get any worse, the 3D effects we saw in number 4 never seem to come to life apart from the odd pop out of a knife hear and there, but never much to shout about. This movie drags and drags and the story is terrible its so bad I almost went to sleep halfway through. I am an avid Final Destination fan but this one is just to terrible.

This yet again Is another typical movie of a large franchise cashing in on peoples hard earned money in hard times which never hits the mark and was never going to. This is a $10 3D movie at the most, be warned if you pay full price.

If you have Number 4 then save your money this is by fare the worst one yet and a total waste of cash.

I very much look forward to the full review on hear to see what they also say "bring it on"

That is quite a critical view, but you certainly raise some good points. I watched this in the cinema and really enjoyed the 3d and the storyline and I would definitely rate this as the 2nd best of all the 5 movies. I hope in he next film they do explore the some of the new plot they have inserted. I went into this movie expecting worse and got better, this film will certainly have its lovers and its haters. I recommend a watch though if you're a fan of the series.

Final Destination 5 is the only Final Destination to have a 'Fresh" rating on Rottentomatoes.com. It's also widely praised by fans of the series as the 2nd best after the first. So while I appreciate this review.. I suggest fans of the series to check it out. I found it fun and very clever as well. The 3D was top notch and was perfect for this type of movie. The Final Destination is one of the worst movies ever made IMO (although the 3D was cool), and this one blows it completely out of the water. I really liked the "twist" in this one and never saw it coming.

Have to agree with you. The movie was one of the better native-3D-filmed movies I experienced this year.

Picked mine up as well, and oddly it was the last one. They only got 10, but TEN? and by lunch time? Anyway, the cover is a cool lenticular cover.

Just got done watching this.
Not bad !

My basic rundown. The story is the same as all previous installments, and the set-ups play out the same way. So in a sense all we are doing is re-watching the first movie, but with different characters and a different initial disaster. So once the opening was finished it became routine. But, thankfully to a new element that was thrown in halfway it added some much needed depth to the basic story that we've seen in the past installments. The death sequences are good but a few also fell flat for me,no pun intended.
The ending had a nice touch to it that I really enjoyed also.
Sorry to be vague about scenes but since this movie is so small on plot I don't want to give anything away for those that haven't seen it yet.
The acting was fair, with one notable performance and that was Courtney B Vance who stood leaps and bounds above every other actor he was sharing the screen with.

So for the 3D. More hits than misses. Some great depth shots and a few nicely done pop-out effects. Some of the pop-outs are hit and miss, on the occasional instance the pop out was lost because it didn't retain it's clarity. There's crosstalk throughout but not to the point of it being overly distracting.
The opening disaster segment was awesome, I will be showing this off to some friends for sure. One scene in particular had me in aww, the nice thing is there are several, is a few shots of the lead character looking out the bus window during the beginning,I found those shots to be amazing.
The death segments all had some sort of depth or pop-out effect to them, but once again a few times they were lost with clarity issues. The ending segment had a few great shots, but once again I don't want to be specific for those that haven't seen it.

The audio was a touch tame in my opinion, and that's not so much a bad thing. I liked the fact that I wasn't be clobbered over the head with bombastic surround the whole time. When it was needed for certain segments the audio track came to life.

Haven't checked out the special features yet so no comment.

So a score

Movie
3.5/5

3D
4/5

Audio
4/5

I recommend it for $24

Same here I got the last one at my local BB. Odd, maybe people are realizing that for $2 more ,even if they don't have a 3D TV it's worth it. Or actually what I think we will see is tons of 3D copies up on eBay for just the 3D disc.

I figured this one might go faster since after XMas, some people likely have new 3DTVs. Fortunately they do allow online orders for store pickup this time - in the past, they've only allowed online order for shipping and made you go to the store early to find the copies.

That's why I made the mad dash to Best Buy to pick up FD5 3D today. I spotted about 12 copies on the rack.

I'd be interested in hearing what others think of the 3D on the BD that also saw this in theaters. I love the movie as has been established but the 3D is...off... The poster who said the depth wasn't great is actually right.. In the theater I was completely immersed with the 3D and not just the pop-out. I remember it being really strong.

However after watching it at home, it's noticeable how the depth is not like it was in theaters. At times it looks like it was post converted - cardboard cut-out quality. I don't want anyone who hasn't see this and planned on getting it to take this wrong. It's still fantastic. The movie, the picture quality and the 3D is better than most out there...but it just isn't as strong as it was back in theaters.

No ghosting for me at all either.

Thoughts?
