There's MUCH better on the whole CD. Songs like Big River, Outtaspace, Blood and Fire, Chinatown, etc are all classic, heavy VH. Overall, it's a really good comeback album!

I have the album, I got it on the day of it's release at WalMart, with a price match to Best Buy's 9.99.
I ordered another copy, to give as a gift, from J&R "Friends With Benefits" for 9.99 and free shipping (Mail Innovations Super Saver). I've listened to the whole album, but for now, I'm focusing in on the first track "Tattoo," just because. It's growing on me with every listen. The first new VH music in a long long time. Sounds great in the headphones. I've got to wait until June to see them, so, I will have plenty of time to get to know the other tracks on the album. For now, I'm goona play "Tatoo" over and over and over, |

Well, at least I didn't have to pay for my ticket.
Overall, the music was A+ and Eddie was amazing, as usual. But David Lee? Let's just say he needs to go back into retirement and they need to bring back Sammy. I was not impressed at all, and found myself halfway through the concert (which was only 1:45 long with no encore) wondering how much longer this was going to last. That's a shame, because I was really looking forward to this concert. Anyway, here's a couple shots I took: VH1sm.jpg VH2sm.jpg VH4sm.jpg VH6sm.jpg VH7sm.jpg |

You had great seats for getting nice group shots of the band ! As for the high VH $149.00 floor seat prices.... another 80's act is set to go tour -- Madonna -- and she has Standard ticket prices ranging from $45 - $355 (plus fees) for the non-Platiunum, non-VIP Package seats. As to DLR and his stage act.... I'm going to pay attention, as best I can, to just Ed and his brother when I go to see them. I think that Dave's stage act had already gotten way too self-absorbed and ridiculous by 1983... so there's little hope for me of him changing. ![]() Here's a tour shirt that I would like to get, being a longtime VanHalen / Dallas Cowboys fan.... ![]() Last edited by Eye Candy; 02-22-2012 at 07:53 AM. |

It was the most exciting show I'd seen in years.
Wolfgang shocked me by singing and playing far better than I'd imagined (I didn't miss Michael Anthony, though I expected to). Eddie was on friggin' FIRE, and I didn't expect that at all after reading Sammy Hagar's book. Alex pounded hard and loud as all hell (as usual!). And, Dave? Dave had plenty of new shtick, as well as the best of all the old. They not only still "have it", they just may be more fun to see now in concert than ever. It's great to see them back, even in this new iteration. The concert scene has seemed fairly dark/bleak lately....but, Van Halen brought the fun back. |

I love the new album. It's very much their late 70s sound and style, but that's okay. Big River is my favorite song on the album, but I still really like Tattoo as well. I have a bad feeling I will feel the same about Dave's on stage presence as some in this thread. Still, I saw VH with Sammy four times, so I'd like to be able to say I've seen them with Dave.

They haven't broken up. They did postpone and/or cancel a whole slew of dates, but the band are pretty tight-lipped as to why. If it's because they need some time away from each other to be able to continue on later, I'm all for them staying together as a band, and doing what they have to, to stay a band. I remember an interview that Diamond Dave gave for MTV where he said that "20 years from now Eddie is going to call me up short of cash and wanting to do a reunion and I'm just gonna say 'Man, I'm not into that' and hang up" or words to that effect. Well, how's 25 years+ sounding?
Come to think of it, how long has it been since they introduced former Extreme vox Gary Cherone as their new singer? Nobody bought that album, as I recall. I think it had to do with image as much as anything musical. When Dave quit and Sammy stepped in everybody knew the "Little Red Rocker" for his hits, solo and with Montrose, and his energy. Cherone, his most notable moment was his duet with acustic guitar with bandmate Nuno Betancourt on the "Extreme"ly elevator-friendy More Than Words. Fail. |
