In fact, Jack & Jill has made more than The Descendants. There is something terribly depressing there.
From what I read, Retablo is pointing out that box office success means jack compared to critical success. ELIC has neither. That's what he kept pointing out, but you focused on the box office component of it.

No disagreeing with you that the Adam Sandler film doing better than The Descendants is problematic. However, Jack and Jill was also in the theatres a week before The Descendants. Also, The Descendants is also still in theatres, and has the potential to generate more cash based on the fact it's up for a Best Picture nomination.

Ah, I took the post to mean critical darlings make more money due to strong word of mouth. Something I wish was more true, not only for ELIC but for the other noms as well.

Watched the movie... It was okay. Did not really grow attached to the kid. The kid was an A-hole sorry but really if I was Sandra Bullock I would whoop is a$$! Tom Hanks part was great! Max Von Sydow is also great. The ending scenes with the mother and child were the highlight of the movie. I will pick the movie up when it's released. 6/10

P.S I never mentioned I hated it. The rabid hate grew stronger as people found out it actually had a place within the Best Picture category at the Oscars and I don't blame them. While its not a terrible movie nor a good one the Academy felt the need to nominate it simply cause it dealt with Post 9/11 (isn't it obvious?). Take Shelter, Shame or Drive were much higher contenders. Hell even TGWTDT would've served that spot!
+1

IMO, it's exploiting the event to get Award recognition. Critically, it did poorly; RT has it at a 45%. I say it's exploiting 9/11 because that plot could work without the 9/11 aspect of it. I mean, Dad dies, son goes looking for something he left him. Why not just make it he got murdered, car accident? Nope, they just HAD to exploit 9/11 to get recognition. Movies like World Trade Center and United 93 aren't exploiting, simply because that movie can't exist WITHOUT it being about 9/11. So that's why I refuse to watch this movie and hate they went to cheap route to get the Academy on their knees ready to take all the load as opposed to more original movies like Drive or Take Shelter (Haven't seen it yet, but from friend's opinions, I want to).

It makes sense in context. At least for me it did, I didn't feel it was trying to exploit the event. But you can disagree on that. Give it a rental sometime, you may surprise yourself and enjoy it.

I work at a job that lets me get free rentals, and even then I wouldn't watch this. You can have your own opinion, and that's great; personally, my opinion is the polar opposite, and you can throw the whole "can't judge until you watch it" routine, but the trailer didn't even make me want to. It's like if you see a trailer for "Date Movie"-- You can't pass judgement until you watch it? LOLNO. I can tell from the trailer it's not my cup of tea.

The site has cover art up now, very nice looking slip. I hope the alternate poster is the actual cover.

If I can get past all the griping...

I pre-ordered this at Amazon and it still has 2 different skus listed: one for $20.99 and the other for $24.99.

The announcement materials I saw the other day only had one sku listed; the combo pack.

Since I doubt that Amazon will get an exclusive disc-only version, should I move my order to the combo pack or will Amazon move it for me and honor the price?

And, yes, I was deeply moved by this film and plan on enjoying it for years to come.

I was curious about this as well, I guess it won't hurt to lock in the lower price and see what happens. That is my plan anyways.

EDIT: I just checked amazon and it looks like there will indeed be a single disk, regardless of what the press release said. The single disk has exactly the cover art I want under the slip...

It's the cover I want under the slip on the combo pack, sorry I should have clarified.

while they were at it they should have renamed the movie, "Extremely Pretentious and Incredibly Cloy"

I wonder if they'll release Everything is Illuminated on blu-ray too (the movie based on the first book by author Jonathan Safran Foer who wrote the book this movie is based on as well)

1 week away! This release kinda snuck up on me.

I expect to see pics soon and I want a $22.99 price, that would be ideal...Next weeks ads should be posted soon.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is one of the most moving films I've ever seen. Will get this in the collection, when it will be released in Belgium.

Amazon (finally) matched the $22 price. They like to make people nervous it seems.
