Been waiting for ages for this. One of my favorite horror films of all time - nightmarish and atmospheric with beautiful cinematography, a creepy Hans Zimmer score, and a great cast. And it's actually genuinely scary - it really got under my skin. When I walked out of the theater my friends and I thought that it was more creepy than scary, but how disturbing it was didn't really hit me until I got home. I would think about a girl in the closet or see Samara when I closed my eyes in the shower. I've seen it many times since and haven't gotten tired of it yet.

About damn time. I already pre-ordered Ring(u) 1 and 2 from Japan (but not Spidral/Rasen and Ring 0: Birthday). Considering the DVHS (an hd tape system) was out years ago, and the broadcast tv version was on in 2010 (and looks good) it was an annoying waiting game. Definitely a horror film made for the format with the cinematography and score.

Finally!!! I'm so in love with this movie.
But I wonder about the transfer. Last year I saw The Ring on tv in Poland and it looked different than on DVD, instead of strong teal it was extremely green, almost like Matrix. Very weird. |

Ditto. The best I can hope for from a scary movie is that it's creepy, and this was creepy in spades. It's so well-made too. Fantastic atmosphere, cinematography, and a compelling mystery. It's pretty much perfect, IMO. This movie also made me fall in love with Naomi Watts. Thought she was great in it.

Great film. One of the better remakes out there. Watts is superb and it has a kid in it who isn't annoying!
There are a few shots in this film that I always love to see. The best one is when Rachel see's the ladder outside and she kinda comes in from the right hand side of the screen out of focus then walks into focus. Love that shot. Great score by Zimmer too. |

Not even a small chance remains that this is the foreign version.
It's the Naomi Watts version that we were all hoping for and assuming it would be. That means March will officially be a 17 blu-ray month. Nothing like that ever before in a non-holiday month. 7 catalogs and 10 new releases. Wow, it's going to be a painful, but enjoyable month. Last edited by Veronica Mars; 02-21-2012 at 01:40 AM. |
