I was playing Red dead redemption on PS3 and realized there are no kids. I started thinking about how SaintsRow and GTA don't have them either. I did a google search and seems like the publishers don't want issues with people killing kids but this can not be it, can it?

killing kids is taboo just like nudity in open world games. the conservative politicians will ban these games and devs don't need the headache.

Not exactly. There is an Adults Only rating from the ESRB. However, AO is restricted by Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo as well as most major retailers.

if you play fallout 3 and new Vegas you see kids on that game. so i can't see why they can't put them in other games

It’s bad enough they put kids in certain movies when they are not needed. What purpose will they serve in games? Assassin Creed games have kids.

There are plenty of children in Skyrim. There's one who wants you to kill his old Nanny if you meet him. Plus there's some that you can adopt, not that I understand why that's a good idea in game context.
